It is unfortunate to say I have to lower my rating for this library.
This is the library I grew up with and used to love, however it is becoming more uncomfortable and unsafe with each visit.
It is situated in the center of the Hollywood District, very close to 42nd street station and the Max train.
Parking is very difficult. The parking lot is small. And many of the parking spaces are reserved for those living in the apartments or shopping at Dania. Street parking fills up fast and makes for a challenge when unloading small children.
Homeless people are tented across the street and my previous visit were sleeping in the parking lot in such a way I felt unsafe parking in two available parking spots. This week there was a very large amount of feces on the wall and part of the walk way in the parking lot. I am glad I noticed this so I could walk my 4yr old around (where cars drive vs where pedestrians are supposed to safely walk) so she wouldn't step in or touch it.
The staff here are very friendly, although when I told them about the homeless sleeping in the parking lot, they were very dismissive and merit asked "if they were aggressive". I have seen very "calm" homeless people erratically flip out for no apparent reason.
The inside of the library is small, but nicely arranged with holds in the front isles and the kids area along the windows.
They have coloring pages and an interactive play structure for kids.
Once inside the library, it is safe and nice. However, be aware of your...
Read moreI visited today from 10 a.m. to around 4 p.m. I was impressed by the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff who answered my questions with clarity and conciseness. The noise level was moderate, though it seemed to pick up around 1:00 p.m. This location offers study rooms on a reservation basis only. According to the staff, there are often 'no shows,' making it a 50/50 chance to secure a room. Planning ahead might be beneficial, though.
Parking wasn't a challenge for me as I arrived 15 minutes before opening, beating the crowd. However, it's worth noting that the designated parking spaces are limited. Overall, a positive experience with a few considerations to...
Read moreMost libraries are havens especially for people who value literacy and and a bit of space to use resources that are not easily available to many in our society.
The librarians, staff and those who work at this library are phenomenal!!! They are knowledgeable, personable, and treat all with dignity and respect. I am awed with how they manage the need for services with a more traditional role of , “Library”. Let’s face it, Libraries, librarians have stepped in to meet the needs of all who use public spaces we call, Library.
I love this library and the folks who create a culture that facilitates information for...
