This is such a great little area. The memorial itself is cool but it's surrounded by a little bit of forest that has walking paths that are great for a little stroll, benches to have a seat that make it seem like you're deep in a forest. I like to walk up the little hill & lay under a tree and read or just chill with my headphones. There are bathrooms close, a small museum, it's a stones throw to the Portland zoo & childrens museum that is super cool for little ones. It's an awesome easily accessible nook of cool things all around. The max train takes you right there & a bus that will take you to the rose or Japanese gardens. This is definitely a favorite place of mine in Portland because like I said you get to be in nature without some big hike...

It was designed by Janis Price, and is called Hoyt, in recognition of the Arboretum. Surely a place for praying thinking doing meditation. Place Discovered while hiking in...
Read moreI was on a bike ride and rode past this memorial. I'm not that big on war memorials, but it looked so beautiful I thought I'd take a closer look. I'm glad I did. It's a beautifully, thoughtfully designed memorial in a peaceful, contemplative setting. The organizers, designers and other supporters really did a wonderful job with this. The names, stories and history included on each of the monuments that spiral up the hill is so well done. The connection between person, place, daily events and stories back home, and the lost lives that never again returned to these places and events is more than moving. I encourage anyone coming to the park to visit...
