It gets a five star rating for nerdiness. I first ran into the Willamette Stone when the Willamette Meridian was mentioned in a Rose Festival Treasure Hunt clue. During that search I found that Baseline Rd between Hillsboro and Forest Grove is roughly the Base Line for the land survey system originating from the stone. If you could follow Baseline Rd, east from Hillsboro you would eventually find yourself at this spot. If you love history, science and discovering how things work, it is a must see.

This tiny patch of forest is beautiful however Google Maps list this is a walking trail and it takes two to three minutes to get to the very end from the parking lot. If you want to find somewhere shortly off the road where you can just sit and nature this is your spot. If you're looking for even a short walking trail this does not qualify. That said even though it is paved it is a moderately steep decline that you must ascend after you check out the monument and maybe sit at the bench at the bottom.

Where the lines dividing Oregon into townships and ranges. Sections smaller units within townships. The trail is maybe 1/4 mile. NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. Benches are for surveyors. Preston was first Surveyor General of the Oregon Territory. Cool historical park. No restrooms, stores within a mile or two.
