When blanketed by the snow, something magical seems to happen within the Idaho Post Fall, Falls Park. As the flurries drift from the darkly muted clouds looming overhead a shimmering can be seen against the horizons as each flake passes through beams of light from various street lamps in the durround of both near and far, thus causes the park to shift in to what seems almost like another reality entirely. Before one notices, the rest of the world disappears as the immediate surroundings become magically surreal and yet so raw in its reality. The primary attraction has dark frigid waters that are still flowing past, but while the Spokane River rushs and gushs at its points, churning and changing, she also flows silently, glimmering, in to placid mirror like surface present within some of the corners and crevasses of her curvaceous banks thus all giving the air a sense of electricity, alive with the display of her true and savage power as shes being terrifyingly beauty. This accompanied with the ethereal shinshin (word for the sound of the silents of the snowfall) happening all around you. This fusion of sensations and stimuli around one has the capablity to dilute the senses enough that one is no longer aware of the fairly near civilization, and the world disappears, melting off into the underlighting effects of the surrounding white covering. Its so mythical its as if mother nature herself embraces you while she allows the surrounding flora and fauna to also transform in to their own alternate selves, becoming elements of another world. Ultimately With all of these defining elements flowing and combining, the over all presence of the entire place is just so utterly majestic.
Adventurer heed caution though: if choosing to venture nearer to the water's flowing edge within the surrounding area, some of the rock surfaces are slick, and by some i mean quite a bit, so I recommend that when one has plans of an adventure at the Post Falls, Falls Park during snowy conditions to stay nearer the paths and common walk areas, or risk the range of possible consiquences such as possible varying degrees of bodily injuries ranging up to the possiblity of a loss of life. It would be due to snow hidded rocks for tripping and surface slicknesses that could lead to unsteady or upbrupt cliff edges with undetermined distance below that may or may not, with the help of gravity and varying incline degrees, lead in to the River's beautifully icy torrent below, which is notorious for its usually un seen stong under tows. It is however, with heightened safely awareness, one of the most enchanting places to exist as a blip on a speck,do keep in mind summertime is even better for the enchanting Spokane River, i would recommend visiting it in all the variant seasonal weather conditions so one can appreciate the Falls Park and the Spokane river...
Read moreWe drove all the way to Post Falls to get Popeyes, so we figured we'd see what else the town had to offer. This place is a gem! If you go off the main paths you can climb down and get real close to a calm part of the river. Could sit on those rocks all day, it's so peaceful. The roaring waterfall at the dam is spectacular too! Even with the construction having parts of the park closed, there was still plenty to do and see. Do note that the kids playground is currently closed. The geese are surprisingly friendly, they'll just walk right up to you and check you out if you stay still and talk to them. (I still advise not trying to pet them or anything, they are wild animals after all.) We saw marmots in the old canal too, which was awesome. Late April seems a great time to go because there were lots of wild flowers in bloom. So glad we stopped here, and we'll definitely be back the next time we're...
Read moreIt's such a beautiful park, with awesome scenery. It's second only to quelin park, (or whatever it's called lol,) which is directly on the other side of the river. This park is probably more family friendly, with a unique little playground, and paved walking trails. Most summers the pond is open for fishing. The Falls are a truly powerful sight to behold, and the path goes right up to it. CAUTION I was there around 05/10/23, and although I didn't see it myself, there was a couple who of people who swore they saw a rattlesnake right on the sidewalk, (after the first bridge and before the playground,) before slithering off into the rocks. There are plenty of garder snakes, to be sure, so who knows if they actually saw a Rattlesnake. Just keep...
