At first glance, it appears rather diminutive but it is perfect - in so many ways!! Perfect for parents with small children. Parents can sit close as their children let out a little steam on the small playground and run around the well maintained grassy surroundings. Perfect for a party! It really is a beautiful patch of land! The bathrooms are newer and clean & there's one large covered area with clean, decent picnic tables and barbeques. Parking is easy &, if needed, could probably overflow into the relatively empty parking lots adjacent to the park. If you'd like to get a little exercise, it's perfect for a walk! Nelson Park is beautiful in every season! Don't forget the dog!! Poop bags available! There's a fairly easy walking trail (does incl a set of slippery-when-wet stairs) that leads you down to the head of Liberty Bay (a protected estuary & great place to watch birds!!) & where Dogfish Creek meets the sea! The path takes you along the water, past Aroy Dy restaurant & then under the road where it connects to the many trails in Poulsbo's Fish Park! Nelson Park is a great place to meet up with a friend for a quick lunch, a quick pit stop, get out, stretch your legs and enjoy nature, get your dog out, take a break from running errands, Let the kids run around, stop and eat or just appreciate nature! Nelson Park provides EASY OUTDOOR TIME!! You can't see it from Finn Hill or Viking but SURPRISE! Its hiding smack dab on your way wherever you're going! Once you discover Nelson Park, you'll be back! NoWhere ya headed? I bet you pass by this park...

A large and historical house does on the middle of the loop as a caretaker residence, I believe after the last ineffectual caregivers were removed they began a home for teen girls, I may be mistaken though. Walk down the grassy slope to a new log circle area on your way to the path that leads under the road to lead you into Fish Park. So glad they finished the trail there finally, my family and I were so excited to be able to access these parks together without crossing the busy road. Nelson park has restrooms and water fountains so it's perfectly paired with the more rustic nature park...
