This place has variety but thats about it.
Their seafood is not fresh. I saw dead shellfish still available for sale long after they’re visibly open! Noticed a lot of rock crabs were dead when the helper was bagging for me. He literally threw out 5 for every 1 that he bagged up. That made me uneasy and questioned if I should even be buying them. Although they were kicking at the time, I wonder how long until they were dead. Makes me wonder what do they do with all the “dead” crabs. Hopefully its not packed for sale in the frozen section. 🤔
Also, some fruits and produce has been sitting on the shelves longer than they should. I recommend inspecting everything you buy. The mushroom variety pack I bought was bad. It had a foul, fermented smell to it. Specifically the shiitake in that bunch.
Customer service is non-existent. Communication could be a challenge for english speakers. I asked the butcher for a half pound and got a pound. I assumed the man didn’t understand english and accepted what he bagged up.
I had the same issue at the prepared food area. An assortment of food is available and priced by the lb. Every item was priced at $13.99/lb. I’m a single person who wants variety so I go to order a few different items but was told they do not do small amounts. There is a 1lb minimum for each item. I thought this was ridiculous and asked the woman if its 1lb per item or 1lb total. The woman confirmed it was 1lb per item.
I will only be going here if I have no other option. Will be going to V-Mart or Sunny Market for my needs. Easier In and Out, smaller and has...
Read moreMy husband just witness that there were an elderly couples returned a bottle of soy sauce which was expired to the store. The manager who was not only apologized but also did not replace a new one to this couples. The elderly couples ended up leave the expired bottle of soy sauce there and left. The manager took the soy sauce and threw it into the trash.
This manager’s behaviours was a bad business decision made. Expired products should not be stocking on the shelves. The cost of a soy sauce is not that expensive to replace a new one to the customers despite this couples are elderly and it was a legitimate reason to return it to the store.
I personally had a bad experienced with the guy who works at the ready food to eat stand. I pointed out to him what part of the areas of the roasted pig I want to buy, however after he cut it down, he then switched to another piece which was hidden behind his counter to give to me, he got caught and I confronted him and told him I saw him switching it because I knew his tricks. If you buy a whole piece, you would know the piece looks like, but if you ask him to chop into a small piece for you, he would switch other chopped piece without you knowing it. So I recommend people that if they want to buy roasted pig or ducks, buy a whole piece and not ask to be chopped by him.
I like this store and recommend a lot of my friends to go there but after seeing this problems, I have to think twice before shopping at this...
Read moreWide selection of goods, but not enough specialized goods one would expect from such a large Chinese market.
The location is dictating a lot of what is being offered in the store. A selection of Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese products are also available. It is safe to assume that they are offering the Vietnamese products because of the close proximity to the local Vietnamese market, less than a mile away.
That being said, a lot of things one may expect a Chinese market to carry, are not there. I lived in China and Hong Kong in the past, and a lot of the things that I had hoped they would carry, that I miss enjoying, were not available. I’ll mention Pocari Sweat as the main thing they don’t have.
They do, however, have a wonderful assortment of Pocky. Exotic fruit is also plentiful, and a lot cheaper than Whole Foods.
Edit: they do sell Pocari Sweat now. So maybe if I complain that hey don’t sell Japanese milk tea, they will start selling it, too.
So why don’t they sell Kirin Milk tea? ...
