“Free Family Fun”
One of the sign reads, “Free Family Fun, “ which is visible from the road as you drive past the Crescent Moon Ranch. And, due to the rising cost of fuel and rising prices of just about anything else, Free sounded pretty good to me. Here was some of that fun.
After parking and taking a quick picture I wondered into the Alpaca Boutique where there were gifts galore for all ages. As I entered and my way around the boutique overheard the lady behind the register ( who happened to be one of the owners,) say she’s had just delivered a Cria aka baby alpaca, and she needed to go check to make sure he was nursing. I followed. Turns out watching a three hour old alpaca take his first steps abs nurse qualifies as Free Fun :)
On I went. You can buy a bag of pellets for $5 at the Boutique to feed the adult alpaca but I just pulled some grass which seemed to be just as inviting for the animals and better fit my budget. And, once again turned out to be Free Fun :) The animals were friendly but I noticed if I didn’t have food they didn’t show much interest and didn’t much care for being touched. But, I can have that effect on things. :) As I moved from one pin to the next I noticed some iron work attached to the fence line providing info about the various mountains that are easily visible on a clear day. Each directly centered and surprisingly Fun to look at through the iron frames.
On I went. The ranch is large but didn’t take long to walk. As I concluded my tour I happened to see one of the alpaca getting a hair cut. As I made my way back to my car I passed the ranch house were I was greeted by the two house dogs. My walk on the Moon took about an hour.
PS.. Please don’t mistake all my comments about Free Fun. If you’re looking for gifts I think anyone would love you’ve found the right place. Clothes, blankets, socks, headwear, toys, yarn, soap, and much more can all be purchased in the boutique. Heck, You can even buy an alpaca:)
Thank you for the wonderful walk on the Moon. And...
Read moreI have been to Crescent Moon Ranch twice, and each time has been a unique experience! This time, I saw a baby alpaca being born, struggle to stand and nurse. There were many recently born alpacas on the ranch , this year. That was so much fun being a lover of animals! The ranch is a muti generational family owned business and the wealth of knowledge and the love of their alpacas is evident in the care of the animals and the kindness they show to all their visitors, especially the children ! It is fun to buy the alpaca food , feed and pet them as you walk along the fence! The animals are used to people and are kind! Don't forget to visit the gift shop where they sell all things alpaca, of course. I especially like the thin alpaca running socks( have bought several pairs over the last couple of years) This is a fun activity for families and all lovers of animals. When you get finished, Smith Rock is close by and well worth...
Read moreWhat a great place to visit. I'm here from Illinois and had to stop for pictures. You can buy food for the alpacas at the little boutique by the house. There is a sign before going to see the alpacas to stop in at the store for instructions. They will give you information on what to do. The main part is to NOT Feed the animals anything they are not to have, you can inadvertently make them sick. The set up is really nice, there is a trail that is set up in 9 stages, just follow the numbers. It is approximately a 1/2 mile walk through the entire thing. They have put up a number of information signs about alpacas that I found interesting.
Also along the walk they point out the different mountains that surround the area, this was awesome for me. Going in spring is great due to...
