Huffhines Park was the intended location of our canceled senior picnic. For years & years we dreamed of the day when we could wear our cool uniforms proudly, while kicking each other in the testicles during an impromptu soccer match. But it was not to be, because the weather apparently hates us as much as Aykunt does. Clearly I remember the day of our cancelled picnic. We were standing in the grass at the park, as cold rain pelted us from the heavens. Then we were accosted by what appeared to be a member of the homeless community. He had shaggy, dark black hair, and an unkempt beard. His sunglasses were perched atop his head, and he looked similar to Charles Manson, only crazier. He yelled "Ladies and Gentleman" loudly, and went into an epileptic shouting-fit, reminiscent of Dennis from "It's Always Sunny"! About 45 minutes into his tirade (in which he claimed to be, among other things, an upstanding facilitator of academia) he was approached by three mounted law enforcement officers on horseback (redundant). He asked them if they had brought a horse for him, while he held a harmonica up to his lips. They replied "we're shy one horse" - to which he shook his head in slow motion, with the response "you brought two too many". That's when...
Read moreThe creek which forms a small lake has a nice mile walk. The edges of the lake and particularly at the dam have a LOT of unsightly trash and I worry about the wildlife getting into it. That's just nasty looking. Ducks and geese are beautiful as well as the bridge, trees, and wildflowers. Benches well spaced. It could have more picnic tables though there are some at the rec center edge. There are some street people who walk around it late afternoon. I wish there was security around park and rec center. Center employees are nice but i dont see them coming out of the office area to check on seniors exercising or safety of young people in gym or walking round the lake Would ve awfully nice...
Read moreHubby and I have been going to this art show for years and it was sorely missed last year along with Cottonwood Art Festival this past two years.
This year's show had fewer art booths (I heard that the show was only given the green light when the city budget was approved in September, so short notice to participants may factor in here), but we did see some of our favorite artists/craftspeople as well as some new we hope will exhibit again.
We went on Saturday afternoon--despite the plentiful parking, we had to search for a space; there was quite a crowd in attendance, perhaps because the dog event, Pawtober, was being held in conjunction with the art show, or because it was a...
