Love the trails. Walked my dog Gizmo there many miles. I park at Forest Hill Park and we walk from there, cross Riverside Dr. and follow Buttermilk Trail to the 22nd St walk bridge over to the river and follow the trails to Belle Isle. We then follow the trails of Belle Isle and come back the same route. About 6 miles total. Trash along the trail and on the rocks and island - subtract two stars. Rude, aggressive mountain bikers who don’t seem to understand that the trails aren’t for their exclusive pleasure, who expect the walkers and hikers to stand aside so that they can blast their merry way through, whose tires reduce good paths to mudholes and destroy delicate root systems of the once abundant wild flowers - also cost two stars. Read moreThe place itself is fine- the people are the issue. Does have a couple portable toilets, now that we are entering peak season, I’ll be curious as to how well those are maintained. There is the slave trail which is an educational and lovely jaunt. I think they could still do better with the parking (as in more space), and the boat ramp needs dredging, and there are massive potholes left unfilled on the southernmost part of the Y. Read moreParking lot will practically tear your car up. Its hard to miss the deep pot holes. Not well kept at all. Very overgrown. My son and I went to fish from the bank. I worried the entire time the car would be broken into. I wouldn't trust parking a vehicle and boat trailer there. Homeless people cooking there food outside,people sleeping in there cars,traah everywhere and an overall unsafe feeling.
