What a beautiful hidden National Park in the city of Richmond. There's also a small, well-appointed museum that's free to visit along with a brief movie theater with the most comfortable chairs. The gift shop and Rangers are also in this building. You can get your national parks passes here. I was thankful for a handicap lift that was easy to use on the side of the older building. It's really convenient and accessible.

If you look closely at that picture and use your imagination you will see the men of the 49th Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment. June 3rd, 1864 at 4:30 in the morning they charged across that 3/4 mile field at the Confederate position with Richmond 12 miles beyond. Part of the only charge that Grant ever regretted resulted in the bloodiest hour on the US soil. The Battle of Cold Harbor Virginia near Mechanicsville, VA.

If I had a nickel for every stop sign leading up to this park from the northwest, I'd probably have about twenty five nickels. Mathematics aside, this site includes a sweeping overlook of Richmond. Nestled just south of the main walkways, the Richmond National Battlefield Park has more than enough historical merit to warrant a trip or two.

It was such a beautiful eerie place. The feeling of standing where 1000s of men fought and died and went missing regardless of what side they fought for was a very serine feeling! We got lost trying to find the bigger battle field thankfully we drove right past a park ranger who was so kind and helpful he asked which field we were looking for as they have multiple I wasn't sure so I handed him my husband's phone with the GPS he kindly pointed us in the right directed. We spend about 2 hrs just walking around taking it all in. I...

THESE PICTURES DO NOT EXIST AT THIS LOCATION! VISITORS CENTER LOCATED DOWNTOWN RICHMOND!!!! We tried to go to this spot where it looked like the visitors center is located but it leads to an empty field. You can see battlefields in this area next to this location but the pics are misleading as to where the visitors center is. Hopefully this will save someone a 8 mile trip in the wrong direction. 5 stars because it's not the fault of the establishment... they do a wonderful job keeping the grounds and...

Great place to see where both sides fought, sometimes with very little defense earthworks, as they tried to cross Bloody Run Creek. The battle of Cold Harbor was a waste for both sides, with no strategic advantage for either, before Lee sneaked away to fight another day.

The park has a visitor center with clean bathrooms, a mile long scenic drive and many walking trails. The Cold Harbor National Cemetery is nearby, as is the Garthright house, a field hospital on...
