I visted Belle Island on my birthday while my husband was at a conference. I travel with a collapsible hiking stick, my hiking buddy #1, my camera being #2. Right off the bat I heard and saw Osprey flying near the parking lot to the suspension bridge. I spotted a nest in a tree in the middle of the river. It was an osprey nest, mama was there all day. There were so many things to explore. The song birds serenaded, many people on foot and bikes, I never felt scared being alone. I had a peaceful break on a bench at the quarry where hearing sounds of the river rapids. I enjoyed watching cormorants and blue Herron at the river. Read moreLegitimately one of the coolest places on the James. No… don’t bring the disabled, elderly, or children who can’t hike. Also it’s not really a great place for fishing but I’m not really versed on fishing culture. There does appear to be some fish, somewhere within the area. There’s tons of little pools which do have fish and there’s ways to hike to a more fish able areas. It’s called the DRY ROCKS. Not sure what’s confusing about that and combining pictures. I don’t know what people expect, then go to more developed areas of James River Park - there is tons of different options.. Ya, there is no bathrooms, just forest (hint hint leave no trace pls).
