Probably a lovely building at one time, but like everything else in Richmond City, run down and drab. Lots of boarded up windows, mud, remnants of a canal, and other depressing elements make this a good example of the ineptitude of the leadership of Stoney's Ghetto. There are signs all around it referring to future restoration, which none of us may live long enough to see. Maybe worth a look for historians and curiostiy seakers if the weather is good. City engineer Colonel Cutshaw thought the building's location ideal for the dance hall built on the second floor. The pump house was located on the canal system so guests could reach it by canal boat. The pump house was abandoned in 1924, and in the 1950s, the structure was slated for demolition.
