This lighthouse is out of the way but well worth the drive. They've done a great job restoring the lighthouse after it fell over.
I've toured most of the lighthouses in Florida and the one thing that amazed me is the stairs going up to the top. They rebuilt the stairs using reclaimed hard wood, and they added a second railing on the inside if of the stairs. If you have ever climbed a lighthouse and met someone coming down while you were going up know how it can be a challenge passing someone. With the added railing on the inside you'll find it like night and day while passing someone on the stairs.

Read moreIn 2012 I came to see this lighthouse. It was beautiful. The ladies working in the museum were wonderful and very nice, however the man working in the lighthouse taking tickets was mean. When I walked in he didn’t say a word. Not even a hello. I said is this the way I go? Because I saw the stairs. He ignored me. I preceded to walk toward the stairs and he began yelling at me. Told me to stop, that people on top had to come down first. He hurt my feelings and I wondered why he didn’t tell me that when I gave him my ticket. I went stood by he wall. There is an upper floor that has a miniature light house collection that you can look at,but there's no way but steps.to get there.,so if you're disabled, you are out of luck. They also have souvenirs for sale. The internet says that it's free to see the lighthouse,but that's not true.If you wish to climb the 92 steps to the top of the lighthouse,you have to pay to do so. There are little lizards everywhere and a separate building houses restrooms. A visitor's center is next to the lighthouse,but it was closed ,when we were there.
