Really disappointed. I was accepted to this University after having a stellar experience at my community college. I have also attended classes at St. Kates Minneapolis campus and had a really good experience. However, at the St. Paul campus I was shocked that they shut down the first day of class to go sing in the chapel. They shut down the computer labs and everything. Also, the women's study class is from a 700 page text book that is written by St. Kate’s staff that is very religiously biased towards Catholicism. They were going to force me to take a Christian studies class even though I had taken Old and New Testament classes at Northwestern. I was lead to believe that the campus was more inclusive towards all beliefs because there are many Muslim and Hmong students that go there, but it is very religiously driven. I feel that my beliefs were stomped on and would continue to be stomped on. I ended up dropping out after 2 days of class, which left me SOL of the semester because all other schools were too far into the semester already because of St. Kates late start date. Overall I feel that it was false advertising by the school (there was also a billboard on I94 that showed a woman of another culture), making them seem open to all beliefs, but realistically they will force catholic beliefs on you. Just make sure that is...
Read moreFrom time to time I have considered moving out of the state of Minnesota, but St. Catherine University has earned my time well. As a born-and-raised Minnesotan I chose this over all of the Universities in the state that I visited, ranging from other similar private colleges like St. Thomas, Hamline, St. Mary's, Augsburg, St. Scholastica, and Comcordia, as well as public colleges like the U of M. The education that I am receiving at this liberal arts college has given me a broader range of knowledge that I feel I can utilize in the real world, and the many opportunities that are offered in the forms of clubs, job fairs, service-learning, work study, professors conducting research, and overall networking will make me able to find the right career that I will be...
Read moreSo forever grateful I was able to spend 4 amazing years at this school. I am not sure what the other people reviewing recently are talking about, as I felt the community at this campus is very welcoming and friendly. It is a catholic school so they do teach and emphasize catholic studies, however there are many classes that center around other beliefs. I never felt like my beliefs were being stomped on, and I am not catholic.
Also, if you are worried about your social life and getting the college experience, don't be! You can definitely still have the college experience and attend St. Kate's. The campus always has activities going on, and there are many schools in the area.
I would definitely recommend...
