Love this library! It is located in a convenient area of Highland Park, close to shopping, food, parks, etc. It shares the building with the local recreation center. It is spread over two floors: the first floor is for returns, the teen section and music/movie materials; the second floor hosts the kids section, areas for study, community rooms, a reading garden (really cute outdoor patio) and all other library materials. The staff is genuinely helpful and kind! They are always willing to provide a book recommendation. They also have literacy programs, host story time and have scheduled community activities throughout each month. Great fun for the whole family!

What an asset to the community. Free faxing and scanning services, low cost printing, and free sanitary products for those who need an emergency tampon or pad. They have a wonderful kids area and completed reserved for teens. When you're down with the library, head outside to the massive playground! Everybody feels welcome here.

I really wanted to like this library- It is modern, well-kept and I enjoy that there are large windows and a courtyard to read in during the summer. However: This is the NOISIEST library I have ever been to. Every time I have been here I have had an issue , whether it is people having full conversations talking on their speaker phones in the middle of the library or teenagers being rowdy in the teen section. There is a lack of study space. There are 3 private study rooms, but if you are not able to get one you will have to share a table with several other people, which can be frustrating due to the noisiness of this whole place.

I wish the librarians would intervene when people are being rude and loud. Another option would to be have a "quiet section" for those of us that are...

Closest SPPL for me to pick up. The last time I came into return liberty materials a stern Asian librarian was incredibly rude to me and basically ordered me to put on a face covering and not so much as a hello or "how are you?"or "welcome to Highland Park library." Given that she is a city employee and taxpayers pay her wages, it was extremely uncalled for how I was treated. I told her off and she was busy to answer me back. If a librarian cannot treat a patron with basic respect, that I refused to either. And this is not Communist China. Next time I will just return materials at the drop off, if there is, outside since i have not seen it. Or will just use another Library system. Worst experience I ever had at SPPL! and I have been...
