One of the biggest decisions of my life made much more difficult by involving Alonso and his staff. I can attest that the staff is very friendly; they will be friendly while gatekeeping Alonso and making every opportunity to ask what you did wrong, while taking 0 accountability. I bought my fiance's ring when the lockdowns first started, and Alonso stated he was giving me an excellent deal on a diamond. I don't know if that's true or not, as they did not have any kind of official information about the diamond when I inquired about it. When I bought the ring initially, I sent his staff a picture of a ring I found online, and they quoted me just above $2000, which I believed to be a fair price. I spoke with someone from the staff, as well as Alonso himself, and they stated they could do it for the price quoted. While the ring appears to be white gold, and the diamond inlays are on the side, that is where the comparison to the ring I asked for ends. Its been a while, but I have the text for what I asked for. When I made complaints, the staff made 0 attempt at apology, but just tried to BS and cover for Alonso by stating the "ring is so beautiful, and your fiance will love it!". Well luckily, she did love it, but again, 0 accountability for the hoodwink. Alonso offered no apology, stated he gave me a good deal on the diamond, and just said he would give me a refund. They were aware I was going to fly to another country within the week to propose.. not sure what legitimate options he thought I had with a week left. I spent a lot of time looking for the ring I wanted to get my fiance, and did not get what i asked for. If what I wanted wasn't possible for the $2000 price quoted, just tell me that.. Fast forward to a month ago. My fiance's ring had bent to hell, so we took it back to Alonoso's to get it fixed. I'm not sure what I expected, but was charged $190 to get additional gold purchased because the original ring didn't use enough to keep its original shape... not something i was once warned about. My fiance is much more honest and careful than this shop, but the front lady wanted to ask what she did to damage it... I didn't say anything then, but when we went back to pick up the ring, i asked if this is something that is expected to be a recurrence. I don't know anything about jewelry, so I tried to understand if this is just a built in cost I didn't account for. The lady straight up said "I don't know, it shouldn't". Upset, I made a comment in front of her about whether we'd need to check if it was real gold, which she just straight up ignored. I see the other reviews here now, about going to another place to find out they'd been scammed with sterling silver rather than gold, etc... Will be doing that now, and filing a BBB report if it is found that the ring is not pure white gold. Feel free to comment if you'd like to join in filing. This shop was a 4.9 when I first went here. I don't know if they were quality before, but these people...
Read moreFor three years, I have use these folks for jewelry repair and engraving. I had found the price to be reasonable, the work to be well done, and the personnel to be friendly. however, every single job I have ever brought them, they have overpromise and under delivered. The simplest of work, such as sizing a ring down, they will quote you one week to do the job, and then, when you go to pick it up a week later, it still is not ready. most of the time that they have done any work for me, I have waited, came to pick up my piece on the appointed day, and I end up sitting there while they do the work. So, your stuff sits around for days on end, only for you to have to wait for them to do a 20 minute job, which should have been completed days ago. my most recent visit was the last straw, where not only did they tell me it would take one week to work on two rings for me, but exactly two weeks later, The work was still not complete. I told them I would just come and pick up my stuff regardless. This prompted them to promise they would do the work, and I could pick up my jewelry in an hour and a half. Upon arrival, they had one piece complete, and the other they had actually not done the correct procedure, of adding a plate on the inside of an open back ring. but instead, had rhodium plated the inside of the ring, for some reason which seems puzzling to me. in their defense, they offered to give me a discount, if I would leave the ring with them, but said they needed at least until after Christmas to complete the job. so, they were asking for four weeks, to do a job that they had originally quoted one week to complete. This is on top of the screwup already mentioned. Frankly, there are other people in San Antonio who will size a ring while you wait, and do as good of a job. furthermore, these other establishments do not keep your jewelry this long. To get this piece corrected, will only take a couple of days, not a week, and certainly not a month. it is just not worth doing business here anymore, even if people are nice, and prices are reasonable, if the work never gets done, it doesn’t matter anyway. I believe in giving everyone a fair chance, but job after job has been the same results, and you should remember this review if you choose to have work performed, or a...
Read moreThis store lacks quality & possibly integrity. I used this jewelry store 2.5 years ago. After a huge ordeal with getting my engagement ring & wedding rings redone, which took months (same as other reviews-being promised a timeline & showing up at the store to be told it’s not ready! Not even a call). I was sent out with my old, not upgraded diamonds in my ring (the upgraded diamonds were my late mothers so kind of a big deal)…which I noticed before driving away & went back in to find out I was correct !!!! They had them in a bag. While that could or couldn’t have been an honest mistake, people should be aware. Know your jewelry.
Part of the ordeal, was a design made up that didn’t work out as a ring guard the way I asked for it. We had to pay more to have it fixed bc they had already created the ring when I saw it wouldn’t work. They didn’t communicate to me how changing the diamonds would alter the shape & didn’t offer any advice beforehand, simply said they could make it the same. Something as a non jeweler, I didn’t think of or realize. Lack of communication, maybe bc they are sales people, not jewelers.
I didn’t want to post a negative review based only (which is still plenty) on that possible honest mistake, but… Now only 2.5 years later all the prongs on my ring have completely worn down (one completely broke. I’m gentle with my ring) & upon taking it to a recommended jeweler for what I thought would be a simple repair, it seems the process for resetting the diamond previously may have included cut corners to put it nicely. Because of this, it’s recommended I start over with my setting: new gold, remold, etc. which comes with a price tag. It’s beyond upsetting to spend that kind of money on something so precious that wasn’t done well & now will cost me a lot more to have done correctly only a short time later. Just so disappointing. First photo is my original ring, second is with larger diamonds switched out & gaps left on the sides bc they didn’t explain to me how it would be different. They said they could make it the same. I had to pay a fee to have it fixed & I am the one that came up with how to fix it. Last ring is finished product, but prongs are shot only 2.5...
