15 years ago I reluctantly moved to Colorado for work, and to my daily disappointment and for numerous reasons including my job, I still live there.
Growing up in San Antonio didn’t prepare me to live in a place where most people don’t even know what a breakfast taco is, or when you ask where to find some, the most common answer is Sonic or Burger King. It almost brought me to tears, and I’m a grown man.
So whenever I’m fortunate enough to travel back to San Antonio, Taco Cabana is on my list of places I must visit for at least one meal, and no matter how long it’s been, I am always very satisfied with the same excellent tasting tacos I’ve always had when I eat there.
I did notice that, at least at one location, they now use frozen potato squares instead of real potatoes I remember being in my tacos years ago. I’m not sure when they switched. It might have been a long time ago, but despite the initial skepticism that surged through me when I opened my taco to salsa it up and saw the obviously frozen bought potatoes.
When I ate the taco, I honestly couldn’t tell any difference and was so pleasantly surprised to learn, as I finished that first taco in only two bites, that these tacos were just as good as they’ve always been, so frozen potatoes don’t hurt the flavor of the tacos at all.
In fact, on my most recent visit to San Antonio, I ate breakfast at Taco Cabana all five mornings in a row until I reluctantly returned to Colorado.
Note: When I say frozen potatoes, I mean the potatoes were purchased frozen and then cooked before serving. They obviously weren’t served frozen in the taco. I’m sure that’s obvious to most people, but I felt it was important to clarify that point just in case an actual native Coloradan comes across this review and gets stuck wondering what I meant.
I wouldn’t want to confuse anyone, and I’m certainly not being judgmental. Anyone who is born and raised in a place with such a lower oxygen concentration in the air ought to be proud just to have made it this far into this review, even more so if they made it this far without help.
If that describes you, don’t you worry about what anybody in Texas might think about you. We’re a polite and compassionate people, and I think we all would agree that you deserve a hand for doing so well with your words and reading to the end of this review. Go ahead and pat yourself on the back right now, because if we were there with you, we would be...
Read moreWe went in for dinner this evening. The facility was not very clean not busy at all but adequately staffed to handle a big rush. The manager on duty was Lydia. We ordered our food 4 bean and cheese tacos 1 chicken fajita burrito and a chicken fajita cabana bowl at 6:26PM. We used our customer loyalty reward for 50% off our meal. So we were good to go :). Or so we thought. At 6:44 our food was served to another table and the young lady serving went back to the kitchen. Upon realizing her mistake she went back to the table where the other patrons were already picking at and eating some of the food. She collected the food and went back to the kitchen. Now 6:48. My wife went up and asked the manager about our order and she said it’s right here and tried to hand us the food that was presented to another table. My wife refused the food and the manager tried to say it was not touched at the other table which was in fact right by us and we witnessed the other people eating from it. She said she would remake the food. We waited 10 more minutes for our food and nothing. I asked for a refund so we could leave and go elsewhere. The manager Lydia then claimed that she did not try to offer us food that had been served to another table and I called her out on it. She quickly retreated the statement and said she wasn’t being rude. I agreed she wasn’t being rude but she did try to serve us food that had been sent to another table and then lied about it. She did not comment. I then informed her I would be back to speak with the GM in the morning and will be taking action above and beyond him/her if necessary. She was unable to refund my transaction electronically and gave me cash instead. We left and went to...
Read moreI work for a 3rd party delivery service and was at this location 2 days ago to pick up an order for an online consumer. No one was at register/counter so I stood in line behind another customer. When it was my turn, I advised I was picking up an order for "X" and was told it would be a couple of minutes so I sat down to wait. While I waited, over the next 15-20 minutes other customers came in, ordered and got their food. When I asked for a status of my order, I was told they have an eta of 30 minutes so it was not prepared yet. I asked why wasn't it put in line to be made with the other orders and was told again that they have 30 minutes before it had to be ready. I let the "manager" know of my pick up time and she said that her time to have it ready was 30 minutes beyond that, said they've had problems with the delivery service having us come through the door too soon after they receive the orders and couldn't get it fixed. Granted I was there 12 minutes before scheduled pickup time, but sat patiently until I noticed the others receiving their food. After waiting and getting such an ugly attitude from the "manager", I let her know that I would not accept orders for pickup from there anymore because I don't have the time to wait that long. I also said I would let the delivery service know and she told me to go ahead and tell whoever I needed to because they can't get it fixed. I had to unassign myself from that order after wasting a 1/2 hour for an order they didn't care to make. As I walked out the door, the "manager" still had an ugly attitude when greeting the next customer saying she was having a good day "until that person walking out the door". Very rude and...
