One Star - A Truly Unforgettable Experience (That I'm Actively Trying to Forget) Ah, Mission Bay Inn (aka Best Western Mission Bay)--where the construction never ends, the TVs barely begin, and customer service is more of a suggestion than a practice. Stayed here twice in the past few weeks because clearly, I enjoy punishing myself. The first visit came with jackhammers by day, a parking lot commandeered by construction workers, and a TV that refused to turn on. I was moved to a new room with a screen so small I thought it was a tablet. Bonus: it had seven channels, all equally unwatchable. But hey, they said the construction was almost done, so I gave it another shot. Spoiler: it was not almost done. Visit #2 was somehow worse. Still no parking (unless you want to leave your car in a sketchy neighborhood), stained bedding, glitchy tiny TV, broken remote, and hair on towels--because nothing says luxury like finding someone else's hair in your bathroom. Switched rooms again (déjà vu!), only to get a lovely coat of wall dust on my clothes. Closet? Nope. Hangers? Dream on. Drawer space for two? You get one. Use it wisely. My key cards stopped working mid-stay because the front desk didn't note how long I was staying. When I told the staff, the response was more "meh" than "we're sorry." Oh, and the hot tub? A glorious swamp of green water. Very eco-friendly. Ice machine on level 3 never works. In short: if you're into construction noise, questionable cleanliness, and hotel staff who couldn't care less, this place is for you. Otherwise, run--don't walk--far, far away

As a "Diamond Select" status member this was hands down the worst Best Western stay in my life. We stayed 2 nights using points and wish we wouldn't have stayed any. There was a construction fiasco where they kept booking rooms even though they had a contractor in to pave and paint the parking lot the next day. My wife and I stood on the balcony and watched 2 tow trucks haul away roughly a dozen guest vehicles at 7am, parked where you'd expect... in front of their rooms!!! Instead of parking in guest parking they were asking guests to park their personal vehicles in an lot next door with zero functioning street lights, while still reminding them the hotel is not liable for theft or damage and to please remove all valuable items from your car! That's accommodation. Hah! The breakfast was low quality and low selection. The other negative is the pool was closed due to a "filter issue". That was a huge let down because we have a 4 year old that had her heart set on swimming there. If I was to dig deep for a positive about our hotel stay at Mission Bay San Diego, it would be the location. It is proximate to so many great things the city has to offer. Do yourself a favor and stay at another hotel nearby until they tear this one down and start over.

I can only say that you get what you pay for. But I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Pros- location was easy to find and multiple entrances/exits, prices, breakfast is provided, elevator. No bed bugs or roaches. Convenience stores are easily walkable. Cons- our room was covered in visible mold and water damage. Hot water took forever to kick in. Bathroom vent was not working. Outdated decor/appliances. Room keys are sensitive and would de-magnetize on their own, at random. Breakfast was only served for 2 hrs (7am-9am) and not everything is offered everyday. Over half of the hotel was under construction, so debris is everywhere and noisy. Pool is not accessible. Thin walls, so you could hear everything from everyone next to you and above you. Not every room has a do not disturb sign available. Door does not latch unless you let it slam shut (which is really loud and shakes the walls) or you either pull/push it completely closed, otherwise if you just let it close behind you, you could still push/pull it open, when you thought it was latched already.

Would NOT recommend staying here- especially with children!!!

Was in the San Diego area for a family vacation, with my young child. Booked this hotel about a month in advance. Seemed like a good deal price-wise, relative to other hotels in the area. Looked nice, online.

Checked-in. Brought my things to the room. Room seemed clean. The grounds of the hotel didn't appear unkempt.

At 4am, there was a man lightly knocking on my hotel room door. He knocked multiple times. He then peered into my room window and then walked away. Immediately, my husband got up and looked out the window and we saw the man walk about 6 doors down from us, around the corner (all on the 2nd floor)... He knocked on that door and peered into that window and proceeded to TAKE THE SCREEN OFF THE WINDOW, OPEN THE GLASS OF THE WINDOW, REACH IN AND UNLOCKED THE DOOR AND BROKE INTO THE ROOM!

I immediately called the front desk. A man answered the phone and I told him what had happened. He did not seemed concerned and stated he would send security to "check it out." We saw a security person do a lap on the 2nd floor and that was the extent of it. We were up the entire rest of the night, scared the man would come back.

My husband looked at our window and saw that it was off the track and easily accessible if anyone wanted to break in. It was weird to us that the man went to our room and then to the room 6 doors down, skipping the rooms in-between. That man must have known which windows were easily accessible/easy to open.

The next morning, my husband went outside and saw a maintenance man walking by and told him about what had happened- HE HAD NO IDEA. We watched as he reached into that room, after he opened the window and the walked away (I'm assuming for back-up or something) and we saw the man who broke in walk out of the room after that (I'm assuming scared he would be caught). The next thing we saw were multiple maintenance men wandering the hotel clearly looking for the man. They were going into all of the vacant rooms making sure he didn't break in there after he left the one he already broke into.

No police were called. I went to the front desk to tell the man behind the counter that I want to be refunded for the next 2 nights that my family and I had paid to stay there. The man pretended he did not know of the man who broke in & when we told him- acted surprised. He said "I'm sorry that happened." and left it at that. I was refunded the other 2 nights that I was not staying there and we left- not looking back!

Looking back, I should have just notified the police instead of calling the front desk. But it was 4am and my entire family, including my small child were very shook-up about the whole thing. DO...

our favorite best Western in san Diego, the parking lot is closed off pretty good so no wondering eyes really see your cars, and even if you have to park on the side parking lot its always been secure you cant really see cars off the road. the way its set up its really safe and secluded, no weird people walking through the parking alot like in other hotels.

we always have a great experience at this location, food is always good, rooms are always clean. people are always friendly from the counter staff, managers, and cleaning staff. when you need something they are quick to get it to you, or really friendly to give it to you when you go to the office.

prices are pretty fair for the area its in. it is hard to get rooms here sometimes because people seem to like this location too.

the location for san Diego is great its 30 seconds from I-5 and it has easy access to it. being north of downtown its actually at a great spot of san Diego its not to far north to be able to get down town pretty quick or to Coronado. its also far enough north that its easy to get to all the north beaches, like mission beach of course but also pacific beach, ocean beach and about 15-20 minutes from la jolla. you can also stay off the freeway and its easy to get all the same beaches, its actually a very nice drive to explore the area there is so much from san Diego you miss when you use the freeway. you see alot of what the locals experience from stores, restaurants, and small business shops that have great clothes, gifts ect... if your looking to travel north away from san Diego its also far enough north you can skip the morning traffic to get out of the city within 15 minutes and get to new port beach or las Angeles.

over all a great location, i recommended it to people that have never been to san Diego because you can get to everything easily, to people that are looking for a different place to stay to be able to get to all the great parts of san Diego easily. we come to san Diego 2-3 times a year for the last 6 years, and we have stayed at many best Westerns in san Diego about 7 different ones and other hotels trying to find the perfect one and i do say this is a perfect location for us. we dont stay anywhere else unless its...

Hello,

I wish I would have seen and read the reviews before booking at the Mission Bay Best Western. It is essential to do your due diligence and gain as much knowledge as possible before visiting this place exclusively. I only read the Google Reviews, and those did not prepare me for what I encountered.

Negatives: First off, the moment you walk in the door, there is a noticeable odor. It smells like mildew or mold, definitely on the wet side. The second thing you will notice is that the carpet is damp. I am confused as to if this is a Best Western trend or a COVID-19 cleaning method? It is bizarre and nasty to walk around on a wet sticky, damp floor. Third, if you drive or park at this location, it is in a very sketchy area. The parking lot and side area do not feel safe or secure. Monitor and watch your belongings. Most of the day and night, people were gathered in the parking lot having a pow-wow and smoking weed. Also, our friends arrived at this hotel the night before, and there was no hot water; they alerted the front desk, and they could care less! They acted like it was our friends' problem, and they could eff right off after long hours of traveling and being out and about having a nice clean room and shower to come back to is the highlight of your day.

Positives: I will say our bed was comfortable and did not have bed bugs. I checked under the sheets, mattress, and bed, and it passed my inspection. Also, the man at the front desk was kind and respectful when we arrived at check-in. The reception and cleaning staff were kind, and I do not blame the individuals, just the corporation as a whole.

Overall thoughts: I wish I could have asked to switch rooms, but what would that solve? Move to another floor and deal with the stench and wetness? No thanks. I highly recommend splurging and spending more money elsewhere. Treat yourself, honey; it's San Diego, for crying out loud!!!! This location deserved two...
