I visited this place shortly after it opened more than ten years ago, and I've stopped in occasionally ever since. I love how it has built a loyal clientele and become a neighborhood institution.
Not hard to see why. If you tried to imagine the ideal place to spend a lazy afternoon, it would look a lot like this spot. There is a spacious patio deck, with a beautiful view of the bay and an ocean breeze. There is a thoughtful beer list, heavy on European styles. The staff are friendly, and the type to remember you name (even if, like me, you only stop by every now and then). There are always people around, but the vibe is relaxed -- never rushed. It is great for a leisurely brunch or a long catch up with friends.
Oh, and the food is always satisfying. It is unpretentious pub fare, heavy on burgers and sandwiches, but everything is thoughtfully made with excellent ingredients. Their pub burger is one of my favorites in the whole city. There are also some heartier and more interesting dishes, which draw on the place's Irish roots. The shepherd's pie and the soda bread are a few of my favorites.
Thanks. Keep doing what...
Read moreNew review-Iâve recommended this restaurant before, but itâs such a hidden gem that I had to share again! My father-in-law, with his Scottish roots, loved the Irish-inspired dishes here when he visited San Diego. We started with the pretzel breadâfresh, chewy, and aromaticâand a large beet salad with goat cheese and poppy seed dressing, perfect for sharing.
For mains, the corned beef plate and beef stew were hits, especially with the soda bread. The shepherdâs pie was delicious but super hot! I had the liver & onions, which was tender and rich, paired perfectly with mashed potatoes.
The service was excellent, and we even enjoyed live music on Thursday night. If youâre into trying new flavors, I highly recommend giving this place a shot! Previous review- We came here a long long time ago and I think they had a different name. Anyways, this place is really delicious and I highly recommend you come to give a try. This time we ordered a bunch of different things and everything is very good. Also their price is so reasonable! Service is friendly and the atmosphere here is nice. Itâs a good place for a nice British...
Read moreWe went here based on a recommendation from a nearby hotel.
The decor is pretty rustic and old-fashioned looking, which is fine, pretty cozy. There's a decent patio which is great on a nice day.
Reading the menu had me excited to try the food. I ordered Bangers and Mash. It was kind of a chore to get through the meal, to be honest. The food was bland and kind of wore on me closer to the end. It was a decent meal for a lazy day lunch but I wouldn't recommend this dish.
I'm not from SD so I wanted to try some local beer. This was the best part of my visit to Dan Diegos. I tried a couple excellent local beers and was satisfied with the selection.
Perhaps the hotel made the recommendation because there isn't a lot of other places nearby. In that case, if I'm back in that same area and don't want to travel too far for some food, or if I'm just looking for a few drinks, I'll...
