First things first: This park has no facilities. No restrooms. Also, this can be called a "dog park", even that there is fenced and designated area for dogs, some people let them run through the park. There are two pretty nice pretty new/modern/ "kids safe" play structures. Nothing crazy, not too big, not small. One is for younger kids, other for bigger kids. Younger area has "rocking animals" and "baby swings", older has "rock-boat" and regular, pretty big, swings. There is a big sand area. Get ready to clean the send off your kids and vacuum the car :-) There is a big grassy area, with only small trees. There is a shade structure with four concrete tables and benches. recently city covered it. Great for you to sit while kids r playing. Often people use this area for birthdays. Last i heard it can be reserved through local park offices (there is a sign with phone number, or you can drive to Lopes Park to the office). During summer times it gets scorching hot in the park, and there is nobody there around noon. During other seasons it can be very pleasant. keep in mind (specially if throwing a party) that in the later afternoon a cool breeze starts blowing and it can bring a pleasant day to a shivering cold one (California standards, of course). There is a water fountain. But it is used more by kids to get the sand wet (to make castles) then for drinking. On the east end, there are some pine trees, casting shade, often you can see a few people throwing a blanket on the bark-covered-ground and enjoying it from there. There are no lights in the park, so it is pitch black "after hours". Sometimes, when days are short, you can see people with kids-using flashlights. During summer nights, you can sometimes see or mostly hear (not too loud) local teenagers sitting on those tables. Hasn't gotten out of control yet, they try to keep it low. In the morning, sometimes there are a few cig butts on the ground and an occasional wine bottle (empty of course) in the trash can. It seems, that local parents tolerate kids occasionally do things that hey are not suppose to do, here, semi hides/semi visible, rather then go and hide somewhere in the canyon or a...
Read moreA wonderful place for a picnic with your kids and a fabulously created play area! The only problem is that there are no restrooms. That is a much needed structure especially when kids need to drink water to keep them hydrated in the summer while playing outside. And to all who know kids, when they consume liquid, it's not to long after when they start to do the Pee Pee dance and are looking around to see where they can go. The community needs to add at least an outhouse. Off to the side of Maddox Park is a gated dog park where the dogs can go potty. So why not let our children have a place to potty while they enjoy their play time outside also. Makes...
