I consider the Mission Bay park a total under-rated hidden gem in San Diego. It's an easy on and off the freeway at just one block from the I-5. There is ample parking and it can accommodate any size vehicles including RV's and trucks with trailers. Boat and jet ski launches are also available. Really nice paved walking paths line the bay front and are wide enough for bikes, strollers and in-line skating. Concrete picnic tables and seating are scattered throughout the park. A huge kids playground is located at the southern end of the park near Sea World drive. Many families do birthdays at this end of the park so the kids can play. If you're wanting a safe place to swim with warmer water this is it. Since it's on the bay there aren't the ocean-front waves and colder water temperatures. There's a newer cafe that's opened at the original visitors center in the center of the park with coffee. Tea and snacks. Really nice seating with umbrellas is available overlooking the waterfront. This is my favorite go-to water front location! Insider tip- holidays are a mob scene at the park and you'll need to get there very early if you're planning a picnic or family event there.

SeaWorld. The park itself was way-cool and had lots of interesting sea-life to check out. There's plenty of cool little activities for little ones a well. My 5-y/o got to feed some Bat Rays (3 little fish for $9 - kinda pricey) but boy she was happy about it! The education piece is really neat and worth the trip. Unfortunately for us a lot of the rides were out if service so we couldn't do a lot of what we wanted to. Plus, be sure to check the height requirements if you have little ones. 48" is where you want to be but 46" will get you on a lot of the rides. The Electric Eel was completely awesome!! Rather short :-( but awesome! The best ride, hands down, was the Atlantis ride. Longer than the other rides with lots of turns, drops, and water. That said, there's quite a strong impression they're trying to mimic Disney. They're way off but I appreciate the effort, it makes for a memorable family experience. Regrets? I bought the 7-day pass thinking I'd use 2 1/2 days of it. We killed the park in about 6 hours, the entire thing. If we do this again I'll do a one-day

Very expensive, underwhelming experience. From the $30 parking fee and $100 per person admission fee, they aren't done yet. Every attraction except the shows and animal exhibits have either hidden (roller coaster mandatory lockers, obnoxious high pressure front of line passes that make main queue move like molasses) or overt (separate admission fee for sky tower and gondola rides) fees. The animal shows have over bearing messages trying to frame up the park management as saints, no doubt a response to "Blackfish". The Gaslighting gets a little over the top. Especially the merchandise that says "SeaWorld ✚ RESCUE". They are trying to frame the for profit park operator in a similar light to a nonprofit zoological organization. Vague phrases like "A portion of every dollar spent..." are designed to entice you into believing they're some kind of charity. If you want to support such an organization that seems to genuinely care about animals, I highly recommend the San Diego Zoo instead. The experience is much richer and they don't try to soak you for upcharges like this miserable park. While both have animals in captivity, I think the zoo management genuinely cares for the ones under their custody unlike these phonies. Check out the photos I took of the corporate Gaslighting they injected before the orca show. Incidentally, I also had to point out our single food experience in this park. We got an ice cream sundae with a brownie that was as dry as astronaut ice cream. They had like a meager 6-8 ice cream flavors listed on the menu but only had mint chocolate chip and chocolate available. Instead of hot fudge they used Hershey chocolate syrup. Aligned with the rest of my underwhelming experience perfectly.

I grew up in Palos Verdes where the worlds first oceanarium, Marineland could be seen in its entirety from the balcony of our home. William I. Pereira, known for his futuristic designs in the 40’s and 50’s designed the main entrance. Seaworld is worth visiting, especially for families of young children. Once is kinda enough. Is it an educational, interactive experience? Barely. With carnival games and a massive arcade and employees who know which way the bathroom is if I am being generous (high turnover). But know you are visiting for the primary attraction, their Orca whales. You quickly discover it’s a 4 hour day, at most, and the other shows are one with a seal and an otter, dolphins, a shark exhibit and some other water exhibits and feeding opportunities that I couldn’t even tell you anything about. PROS: -Orca whales CONS: -Small -not meant to be educational, it’s to entertain and it’s more of a high end carnival vibe with Sesame Street promos everywhere, lots of merch TIPS: -50% off ticket coupons are very easy to find and their are no black out days

Description
Centered on its namesake waterway, the Mission Bay neighborhood is more than 50% water and known for SeaWorld, which has rides, aquariums, and animal shows. A huge manmade water sports zone, popular for sailing and kitesurfing, occupies the western bay. Stand-up paddleboarders ply the calm waters off Fiesta Island, a peninsular park with a long beach. To the north, salt marsh preserves attract wading birds.
