Sophie’s Banquets & Events — Attraction in San Jose

I called to inquire about prices for a wedding. Off the bat I told Joey on the phone the budget was unrealistic, but I wanted a feel. Instantly Joey became very hostile saying it wouldn't be possible. I attempted to explain that it was understandable that the price wouldn't be reasonable and that I'd like a solid estimate because on my end of course I'm willing to go higher, I was just extremely interested in the venue itself. He began to rant to me about how I wouldn't be able to rent the place because its a ridiculous price. I continue to try and explain I entirely understand, but I would like an estimate because again I'm very interested and I'd be willing to go higher because I knew that my price for the wedding I'm planning (not my own) is unreasonable. He then hangs up on me as I'm speaking. I call back because I assume the call cut off and no, he says theres no mistake that the price I'm saying is an insult. I entirely understand, but I was hoping to get into talks of their price, not to negotiate lower, but so I could relay the information to the bride. Not once did Joey fully allow me to explain, instead he argued with me over the phone and told me I wasn't going to find anything. Truly a negative experience with someone whose handling a business. I knew the price I gave was ridiculous which is why I told him off the bat and gave the disclaimer. I agree the budget should be higher, but I'm starting with what I was given. He was extremely unprofessional. If it's your first time planning a wedding or you're already stressed out do NOT call this man. Extremely unfortunate because I was willing to pay their price. I used Sophie's Banquet & Event as my venue for my wedding banquet. The whole process was seamless with Joe and Osh. Sophie's grill started by setting up some time to get to know us, what we wanted, and shared what others have done in the past. First and foremost, I've been coming to them for their Mediterranean dishes and they haven't disappointed. Beef kabobs and lamb are my go to. Sophie's grill had different variation of dishes to mix and match and it was buffet style. You could truly make your special day the way you wanted at this venue. There was enough room for a party of 80-100+, while having areas to dance, set up a photo booth, and checkin desk. On the day of, Joe and a server were excellent hosts for my guests. They followed the agenda for the event, had our drinks cold for the guests, and made sure everyone was happy. I would come again for my next event and would recommend working with Joe...

We held our reception dinner here at Sophie's Banquet because it was just right in our budget and many other flexibility like bringing outside catering food, drinks, photobooth, DJ, our own decoration., etc. You get the space + food from the restaurant at a completive price. The food here is really great (5/5). The reason why it's not a 5 star rating is because we wished we could have came a bit earlier to set up decoration, chairs/tables, and food. The AC was off until 80% (130 people total) of the guests arrived to the revenue. A note prior to putting a deposit is to ensure you have Joey write down how much is the revenue + food per person.
