You'll read numerous reviews stating "horrible customer service," but don't believe the hype. The San Marcos Hobby Town is an awesome store and I always receive great service from Lynn and John. Their parts in stock aren't any worse than the other North County hobby shop, "RC Hobbies," and their prices are comparable. Here are a few tips for having a wonderful experience with this specific Hobby Town location, and any other business:
Don't pretend that you know more than you do. The employees know their stuff and can tell if you're BSing them. If they sense this, they'll rightly give you the cold shoulder.
Don't be a cheapskate. This is a retail, for-profit operation. If they have your parts in stock, be grateful and don't expect lower prices than other comparable hobby retailers.
Expect that the employees are human, and that they appreciate grace and compassion from their customers. It's a standard "treat others as you wish to be treated" relationship. If you walk in, and the store is mad busy, the employees are probably more stressed than you are. Take it easy on them.
Shop there consistently. The more they see your face, the more money they stand to make from you and this results in a positive business relationship. If you've only been to their store once or twice, you haven't established a positive relationship yet and you shouldn't expect to be treated as...
Read moreHorrible experience each time I have walked in there. There is a bitter older woman working there as a supervisor that needs some serious Customer Service training. I am active duty and when I ask if they offer a discount I always get the you must be kidding me look followed by the "we have low prices already" excuse. Your not kidding me when I can pull up DJI brand retail prices online and your selling there stuff for more than retail. I enjoy spending a lot of my expendable income on my hobbies and this is the closest real hobby store to me and I avoid this store like the plague. Once in a great while they will have a part I need that no other shop has and every time I leave disappointed by the serious lack of customer service. A customer doesn't need much to have a good shopping experience, offer what you can do for them and try your best to make them happy. It's just that simple. I mean you're in the "selling fun" business so at least try to act like you enjoy what you do and your customers will see that and feed off of it. I seriously hate to leave negative feedback but if it means that changes will be made so that the next customer has a better experience then it...
Read moreI got a plane and the day I got it, I went home and unboxed it, it was about 7:20pm, and when I opened it, I noticed there were scratches all over the plane, and the propeller was cracked, I wasn't able to fly the plane because it was dark out, so I just tested the servos and the motor, and I gave it a little bit of throttle and the propeller broke on both sides, and I didn't blame the store because of the packaging, the store closed at 8:00 PM that day so I waited the next day to return it, I went to the store and told the manager what happened, he kept on saying that "it didn't come out the box that way" and that "you did it on purpose to get a refund", and that isn't that got me mad, what got me mad was that when I was about to leave, I heard a man returning a plane, and I saw that his was in even worse condition than mine, and then I realized that the manager was racist, he didn't want my plane back because I'm middle eastern and had an asian look, and the other guy that returned his plane was the same race as him. would not recommend shopping their, and I've never had a worse shopping experience before, and one of the worst customer services I've ever...
