Sayulitas Mexican Food — Restaurant in San Marcos

I want to start by saying that we are huge fans of this restaurant. My wife and I have traveled all over Mexico… And this menu has a unique twist in both preparation and presentation. However…!

…we were very disappointed when we got home and opened the bag with our order in it only to find it wasn’t there. We only ordered one burrito and I ordered it online, hours in advance, and when I picked it up at the designated time, there was great service from the gentleman behind the counter. I signed the receipt as he requested, however, when we got the order home and opened the bag, it was not what we ordered. (Even after a month of waiting and not going back, they still have yet to rectify this mistake or even bothered to make amends.)

The real unfortunate part is that we were given what seems to be a surf and turf burrito instead of the Salchichon. Normally we would just take it and move on, but my wife is allergic to shellfish. We would’ve happily brought it back if we did not live 40 minutes away all the way over on the far east side of the county.

We were both extremely disappointed. She had to order delivery from somebody else out and that caused a small argument and an unpleasant evening. I called and wrote to the staff, which responded to both of my inquiries with the same reply: "we apologize, and we will take it up with local management". What does that even mean? Did they ever do it? We have no idea. Not the customer service or even the apology we were looking for. They seem to feel this kind of thing happens, but that's just tough, and bad luck for us. =(

We wanted to write a review to make sure any future client MAKES SURE TO CHECK THE CONTENTS of the bag before leaving with your order. Because they couldn't care less after the fact. Our order was not complicated. However, paying $20 for a burrito and then not even getting what we ordered is more than...

I started going here at the recommendation of my real estate agent. I've been several times to buy burritos for the workers at my rental property in escondido. This review should be 3.5 stars.

Postive: burritos are huge and they have some interesting mixes of ingredients. Salsas are everything from mild to habanero and have great flavor and heat for all tastes. Carne and carnitas are solid and flavorful.

Negative: today I ordered 2 carnitas burritos, asked to add sour cream and remove the pico de gallo. Ordered 2 half liter bottles of Coke. I'm very well aware inflation is out of control. The total came to 46 plus dollars for 2 burritos and 2 drinks. That was with a nominal tip and tax. Seemed pretty high for what I ordered.

When I got back to the house, both burritos had pico in them. First world problems, I know. Spending 30 minutes picking the tomatoes out of the burritos was irritating. 4.00 for a bottle of Coke seems really high.

It's often really busy and it's impossible to open your food to check if it's right. I trusted the order was correct as it was read back to me correctly at the register when I placed the order. Better quality control would be much appreciated.

I'll definitely give them another shot, but I would make sure you check your order before you leave with it,...

I have seen a lot of people and ads on Facebook raving about how good Sayulitas was so I finally gave them a try. I ordered food for me,my wife, and my 3 year old daughter over the phone for takeout. When I went to pick up the food I was surprised by all of the great salsas they had at the salsa bar so I got some of every sauce they had to try them. When I got home I opened my food and it’s looked soooo good it was Pac-Man fries and carne asada fries for my wife and daughter. It had really good taste and the whole time while eating I was telling my wife how I found my new favorite Mexican spot. That same night I started feeling very nauseous and my stomach was hurting a lot and I had diarrhea. Then my wife started with the same symptoms as me and sure enough my daughter started throwing up and my wife soon followed. I didn’t throw up until 4am that morning I have a pretty strong stomach but even I couldn’t keep the food down. Me and my family got food poisoning from this food and it lasted for 3 days.
