There are 3 trailheads to take you to the Bell Canyon Reservoir. The Bell Canyon Boulders Trailhead is probably the hardest. There are a lot of steep steps that are hard on the knees. Also, the parking is very limited. The Bell Canyon Granite Trailhead starts out very steep, but I think it is easier than the Boulders trailhead. The parking is fairly limited, but you can park across Wasatch by the G.K. Gilbert Geologic View Park and walk to the trailhead. The Bell Canyon Preservation Trailhead is new, and I think it is by far the best way to start the hike to the Bell Canyon Reservoir. This trailhead connects into the same trail used by the Granite trailhead. However, the parking lot is at a higher elevation, so you avoid the initial steep trail from the Granite trailhead. The parking lot has also been sized properly, so there should always be plenty of parking. If you want to enjoy a great hike with your family, I recommend using the...

Just want to share some info so others who are interested in this specific location have it. Google maps directs you into a neighborhood to reach what is listed as Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir. Once you are within said neighborhood there are many signs saying no trailhead parking, please use 10245 S Wasatch. Which is essentially where Bells Canyon Boulder Trailhead is found. It seems a neighborhood developed semi recently in this area, so there is a pathway up to the first listed trailhead via a neighborhood path. But this path is steep and full of stairs, and you can’t get off the trail to walk the road. It was just an unexpected find when I thought I was taking my aunt with a bad knee to an easy path. I’m sure once you get up there it’s great but we unfortunately we had to turn around. Just don’t want anyone else surprised when they...

Its a very short hike for amazing canyon, reservoir and creek views. That being said it is definitely not a place to go if you expect to get away from crowds (especially on weekends). There are 2 main parking lots, both have an overflow lot that is a short distance from each lot. Definently lock your vehicles and do not leave anything of value in plain site in your vehicle. There have been multple smash and grabs over the last 10 years or so.

These have probably declined in the last few years, due to the number of people coming and going most of the day and night.

Overall great short hike for the family to a pretty area, with lota of people, just look at it like a hike/visit to...

Beautiful hike! The water is highest I've ever seen. I've done this hike many times over the last 5 years and loved it every time. I would, however, like to add that for those who hike to get away from people, this is not the hike for you. The hike itself is incredibly beautiful but has grown a TON over the last 2.5 years in popularity and extremely busy. For some, it may be difficult to enjoy a hike when there are big groups of people or children you are waiting to pass or holding you up. If you are someone who will be easily annoyed by this and still want to try it, go early in the morning or on a week day before 3 pm. Avoid going on a holiday or weekend as it's likely to be crowded.

The reservoir is beautiful and clean. Nice wildflowers in the spring, and some ducks and geese. There are two trailheads that access the reservoir: Boulder Trailhead and Granite Trailhead. Boulder is an all incline of “stairs” for about a mile, once you get to the the reservoir the trail is flat all the way to the other side of the reservoir where the mouth of the spillway is (1.6miles to this point-2.37 miles round trip to the parking lot). If you continue past the reservoir you can hike to the Bell Canyon Waterfall. I have not done Granite yet, but it also continues to the waterfall.

Absolutely love this hike. Would recommend to everyone. It's a quick 1.3 miles up to a small, but beautiful reservoir. You hike to one side of the water and can circle all the way around the reservoir. My 5 year old did it just fine. The hardest part is actually the very beginning. Clear natural steps/stairs but they're wide/deep and steep but it's for a brief section. No dogs allowed to protect the watershed. This hike it tucked in the middle of a neighbor. Decent parking area. Go in the mornings or during the week when it's less crowded. Simple, nice hike.
