Very sobering after our bus tour with our very friendly guide who showed us the beautiful historic architecture, the gracious tree-lined plazas and monuments. She hardly mentioned Savanna's historical involvement in African slave trade. Isn't that important enough to be included in a tour's explanations? We saw this plaque only because one of us had visited Savannah before and drove us there to see it in the middle of a modest local...

Savannah has 109 historical markers. This one is a sad reminder of things past. It is also Very important for people to see/learn our history so that the same mistakes are not made again. Visiting this site and walking the area was an emotional experience for me. Seeds from many of our family were planted everywhere from this beginning location. I am encouraged to appreciate the struggle of my people and to continue the fight they began for all of us. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!
