Took transit to a short walk from the Visitor's Center (about 4/10 of a mile). Beautifully kept gardens in Spring bloom, many like one large star-tulip magnolia, various bulbs in large swathes a little later than usual. Cherries still pink but leafing out. All kept very well.
Island observation tower was inaccessible without high mud boots. Last several feet of the path were underwater but that due more to a longer than usual winter.
We did get a nice close-up view of a Great Blue Heron having a long grooming session.

Read moreThe "walk through the park" experience is awesome! It is secluded away from the craziness of the city and you really can escape in the beautiful creation! So much variety in trees and plants throughout here!
There are both paved trails and dirt trails with little traffic. Great for biking, running, or walking! Great picnic area too!
The botanic garden is underwhelming at best and even in season many of the flowers were dead or not bloomed.
