10 Least Crowded Beach Campgrounds on the East Coast π 1. Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland/Virginia 2. Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware 3. Myrtle Beach State Park, South Carolina 4. Anastasia State Park, Florida 5. Cape Lookout National Seashore, North Carolina 6. Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina 7. Grayton Beach State Park, Florida 8. Bahia Honda State Park, Florida 9. Sebastian Inlet State Park, Florida 10. Croatan National Forest, North Carolina Will they be empty? No. It IS one of the busiest weekends of the year, but theyβll definitely be less crowded. Less traffic, less people, that means more time enjoying the beach, win. . . What are you up to this weekend? Bonus tip! Find a 4WD beach if you have a vehicle that can handle it. I finally got rid of my minivan for an AWD SUV and being able to drive in the beach is AMAZING! No more worrying about parking and lugging around all my stuff. Plus 4WD beaches will typically be less crowded and are dog friendly. βββββββββββββββββββββββ We Chose Adventures is an outdoor family that downsized to prioritize family adventures. My review contains the good and bad about our experience and the site we stayed at (152). We camped near the Nature Center in a tent for 10 days during and slightly after the MBBW 2022 Spring Rally. We loved the park and campground itself and already planning our next visit. Most of the staff were welcoming and friendly. The park itself has access to the beach and also has a pier you can walk on for free and fish on for a small fee. Campers have access to restrooms, showers, and the laundromat of the campground. Very close to the airport, but we loved seeing and hearing the planes take off every couple minutes to hours. There are also some curious wildlife in the park, including some raccoons (as you can see, they were curious about the bread in our tent at one point [we did not feed any animals nor leave them any food]) There is also a small store with some essentials (except allergy medicine lol, which we had to go get from Walmart due to the pollen). Now the bad. I really dont want to deter you from visiting here, because it is a wonderful park and campground. But try your best to stay away from sites near the Nature Trail or Nature Center: these areas have heavy foot and bike traffic and we were constantly hearing peoples conversations on the trail, the yells and screams of kids in the woods, and people were constantly gathering in front of our site as if we werent even there. I mentioned above that MOST of the staff were friendly and kind. The woman with yellow-white hair who cleans the restrooms near the Ranger station and the older gentleman with white hair and glasses that cleans the sites during check out were so, so rude, and I will call in about them when we make it home. The lady would get frustrated when she would come in at PEAK hours of people taking showers or using the restroom (for the first time in the morning) and demand they hurry up and "get out", as I heard her mumble and speak MANY times. She even had the audacity to roll her eyes at someone in front of me and then look at me for validation for them asking if they could use the restroom before she had even brought her cleaning supplies in. I had my own bad experience w/ her when I asked her where another restroom was located when she was cleaning the restroom near the ranger station (had just gotten there and didnt know the layout of the campground) and she swatted her hand at me, gave me a nasty look, and said "Go look in the circles, I dont know what to tell you." Very rude and unhelpful. Every time I saw her, she emitted the sense that she absolutely hates that place. The man I dealt with was pushy and very annoyed that he even had to speak to us. We had a trailer for our motorcycle that my boyfriend was taking to the parking lot (we still had 30 mins before checkout) and he pulls up and tells me to "hurry it up and check out" because it's almost 12. I told him he would be right back (he came back on our bike 20 seconds after the guy left) and he rolled his eyes and told me the time in a condescending way. I replied we'd be leaving soon (again, still had 30 minutes) and he told me he'd be back to check in a few minutes to "make sure I was gone". Besides those two sourpusses (which I hope you dont have to encounter while there), our time was great, but we would definitely pick a spot away from the Nature Center if you dont want to constantly hear talking, yelling, or foot traffic. Campground might want to hire friendlier cleaning staff. Nice campground, and look forward to coming back.

The nature is immaculate but the customer service brought it down. The website says first come first serve and nothing about RVs, so when I arrived from Connecticut at 6:50 am with some other cars, I was denied admission citing the 'rule' that no RVs were allowed in on Sunday and to come back tomorrow. Frustrated, I went back to the Cracker Barrel with my sons thinking that we would have to kill a whole day with no beach... and our roadtrip down the coast to Florida was off to a bad start. By the way, parking is killer and beach access limited. Thank God my oldest son found Huntington Beach State Park and at noon we got in, no problem and spent a wonderful day in the water and stayed another day to be allowed to enter Hampton Beach State Park on the day we were told RVs were allowed. Another morning I get up super early to wait in line (first come first serve right) and the same guy has the audacity to say there is no room for my 23 foot rv! I did not accept this and he said I could come try again later but I insisted that the rules say NOTHING about RVs or anything and I could back my rig into a regular spot and overhang grass. Still he kept trying to get me to just accept defeat and even pulled the 'I will get fired' card but I told him I would be waiting until he reached the ranger to confirm that there was no room for my rig after ten people had entered. I hate pulling the Karen card but I waited him out on the side while others kept entering until finally he beckoned me over... I was allowed to enter, but MUST park in the overflow parking. By 7:45 am I was able to tuck my rig away in the overflow lot and leave the other hundred spaces unbothered. Despite that frustration, my sons and I enjoyed the water, the pier was so enjoyable and I wish I had a crabbing net. The boardwalk is beautiful and the trail named Sculpted Oaks was a much needed nature break. I would absolutely recommend this park but not with an RV enjoying a day on the beach without camping out. I do recommend Huntington about thirty minutes away and the staff there seemed to be happy about seeing guests unlike Myrtle where they seemed burnt out on the patrons and were all about increasing profits...

We recently visited Myrtle Beach State Park and had a good time overall. The beach is clean and well-maintained, and the $8 entry fee per adult is quite reasonable. The facilities include restrooms and showers, although I couldn't find a changing room, which was a bit inconvenient. There were a few drawbacks, though. Firstly, I had issues with Verizon connectivity; it seemed non-existent, and Iβm not sure if it was just me or a common issue there. Another concern was the rule against beach tents. We brought a small beach tent designed to provide shade and protection from the sun, but we were informed that such tents are prohibited across Myrtle Beach. Personally, I found this rule frustrating as it left me without adequate shade and resulted in a bad sunburn on the first day. On the second day, I sought refuge under the pier, which was a lifesaver and a great feature of the beach. The beach was quite crowded, and the parking lot closest to the water was full, which made finding a spot challenging. Despite these issues, the beach itself was beautiful with fantastic water, and the natural surroundings were as stunning as always. Overall, Myrtle Beach State Park is a nice place to visit if youβre prepared for some of the logistical challenges. The natural beauty and amenities make it worth a trip, though I hope they reconsider the tent policy for the comfort of all visitors.

On our first visit last week (February) we explored the park to become familiar with the trails and the beach access. This is a large park for itβs location, a location that is convenient and easy to access. We stopped at the main park office to purchase our yearly state parks pass and we were greeted politely and treated very well. The lady helping us explained a lot about the park and how our state parks pass would work at any of the 47 state parks. She also told us about some of the must-see parks and how to use some of the perks that come with the pass. We were also given a nice guide to all the parks to keep in our car. There is ample parking, easy beach access, multiple picnic areas and a handful of βforest trailsβ to choose from. The trails are well marked and have numerous educational/informational signs throughout the hiking area. Also, there are numerous benches to sit on, read a book, or enjoy the views and the sounds of nature. Bathrooms are clean, are in various locations in the park and have changing rooms also. We will be going to this park on a regular basis in the off season. I can only imagine how busy this park will be during the summer monthsβ¦ I would recommend visiting this park, especially during off season, weather permitting. Thank you.
