This is a very pretty walk most of the year. The well defined paths are easy to navigate, mild inclines in a couple places.
In Fall the colors are gorgeous, yellow Aspen leaves are bountiful, surrounded by other trees of orange, red and gold Autumn foliage and backdropped by snow capped mountains. Photographer Paradise.
October is our favorite time to visit, during the Kokanee salmon migration up stream to spawn. Some years the salmon are so thick, they almost form a walking surface. It's entertaining to watch their process as the jockey for position and choose their opportunities.
We've also seen bears, raccoons, deer, squirrels and lots of water fowl and bird on this walk.
There are educational signs posted along the walking path, some with experiments. Also an underground/underwater viewing chamber, which children love.
At the entrance, there is a ranger station/gift store and well maintained restrooms.
The local Salmon festival is also held at this location.

Read moreTaylor creek trail is not only a really nice trail to walk, but its educational, and beautiful. Icing on the cake is leashed dogs are allowed on the trail. There is plenty of aquatic wildlife to see along the boardwalk style trails overlooking the water & wetland, as well as birds. We even saw a small brown bear. The bear had zero interest in us or our dogs, and was more interested in getting away from people. There are lots of signs along the trail with info about the wildlife, history and ecosystem. The aquarium was closed, and appeared to be closed for a long time given it was not maintained. Hopefully it will re-open at some point. This is a great trail for families with children and...

What you REALLY need to be cautious of are the bears. Yes there are bears all over Tahoe, but the bears walk right on the plankwalks where the people are. They can be seen up close and personal. Most times, they don't want to be bothered with humans, but if you get too close to a cub, momma bear can and will protect her young!
My suggestions?
Leave the kiddos at home, especially those in strollers.
Leave your dogs at home. Yes, they are allowed on the trails, but barking dogs really do disturb the bears' environment.
We go back yearly and it's never...
