Such a lovely, lush walk through the wetlands adjacent to Lake Tahoe. Just a short drive from So. Lake Tahoe hustle and bustle, where you leave the noise behind and hear the wind in the treetops. I'm serious! I was so surprised at the quietude given the proximity to Hwy 89. It's a gem. And, bonus- it's pretty small so you can walk all the inland trails in about 20 minutes and then head to the beach via the beach trail (about 10 minutes), which was Mark Twains trail for the "tenderfooted." While on the wetlands boardwalk, do be sure to pause at the lookout point-- its lovely with Lake to your right, mountain to your front & left, and bright green wetlands spread out beneath you. Pause here and breathe it...

Of course it's not officially open until the Labor Day weekend - along with the Tallac Historic Site. The walking route I took required climbing over a fallen tree across the trail. I saw another fallen tree on another trail as well. Lots of clearing and repairs between now and Labor Day weekend.

Great day for watching the salmon spawning. NO bears when we were there. Ranger was out & about answering questions & keeping an eye on things..next year we're going earlier in the spawn & get there at daylight so maybe we can see feeding bears..
