The museum is now open. The tickets are expensive. $25 for an adult and $18 for a child. You are paying for the interactive technology they incorporated. They did a decent job with the displays. The video could have been done better by incorporating Florence Henderson and Jim Neighbors singing their songs. It felt like they wiped away the history of the Hulman-George family owning the track. We were hoping to see more cars. But they sold a lot to pay for the update. There is a Penske wing with all his winners. They should have made the driver suits display the actual drivers height. I know Sam Hornish Jr. is taller than Helio. It looks misrepresented. I liked the true dirty milk stained helmets. It went from clean to dirty helmets.🤣 Penske should be embarrassed by his picture with Trump. That is a disgrace to the American people.🤬 He probably is getting the tax break and his biggest supporter. The museum also didn't seem 508 compliant. It's probably against DEI, too! They have the gift shop with the Lego pagoda and mini TV. The milk bottle lights were neat! The merchandise design is 80's look. They had nothing that said "buy me." I'm not sure they really know "True Race Fans." That has always been the case at the race. They always focus on celebrities, but its the people who come every year to the race that are the "true fans." Also, it would be nice to have a web link from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway web page to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum website. Overall, it's a once and done museum. There's no reason to buy...
Read moreMy 3 star rate is based on the museum only as it is in 2023. A complete upgrade is planned for 2024 or 25. Also, when I was there, for unknown reason there wasn't the bus tour offered, which brings you to the actual track, pit lane, grand stands etc. The museum itself comprises of only 2 larger rooms. One has many of the original race winning cars and corresponding info boards. On the walls there is a loooot of text to read - very interesting, but somehow it feels like you spend most of the time just looking at the wall reading. Reading a booklet in a comfy chair would be more ergonomic. The second room is a bit weird - the text stuff continues, but there is also a showcar, which is clearly identifiable as not being a real one, but you can sit in it and take a picture. I didn't do it because it really looks like a cheap fairground prop. They have a couple of racing simulator seats (not really impressive) in which you can drive a couple of qualification laps - out of order when I was there. Finally they show a 15 minute documentary movie called "Race Day" in what is even less professionally equipped then a cheap small screen home theater. Interviews, scenes, everything is without any order assembled and not even the years are displayed anywhere and picture and person speaking do not match at all, so this is really like the work of an intern. So I strongly suggest to get information on the availability of the bus tour and/or wait until the museum has...
Read moreThe Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum delivered an unforgettable journey into the world of racing history. Our visit was filled with memorable moments, from experiencing a lap on the legendary track and seeing the iconic bricks up close, to immersing ourselves in the museum's comprehensive exhibits that beautifully narrate the full racing history. The museum proudly showcases two cars listed on the National Historic Vehicles register, highlighting their significant role in the racing world. The gift shop offers a wide selection of merchandise catering to all racing enthusiasts. The museum staff were exceptional, providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance throughout our visit. The only minor suggestion for improvement would be to relocate the buses from the fountain area, as it would enhance the photo opportunities in that picturesque spot. We were thrilled to find the Borg-Warner Trophy available for photos, along with the chance to sit in a racing car and enjoy the simulators. Our experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum was nothing short of fantastic, with the staff being the highlight of our trip.
