Planet Fitness isn't for me. When signing up for a membership, the staff member facilitating the process was very little help. My questions were answered with clearly rehearsed, pat responses that ultimately did nothing to clarify the issue at hand. For example, "Why do you say you need both my debit card AND a credit card on file?". The response was suggesting that in having both, somehow my finances were less susceptible to fraudulent intrusion... an idea that seemed (and continues to seem) counterintuitive almost to the point of absurdity. They obviously want both on file so in case one form of payment fails, they can use the other to guarantee that their monthly fees (and other costs) are collected. I wouldn't call the practice unethical in itself, but refusing to answer the question truthfully painted the entire process with the color of potential dishonesty and put me in a defensive state of mind.
The gym seemed overcrowded not with exercise enthusiasts, but with rows of workout machines. I personally enjoy using a variety of equipment, however when confronted with more options than a Phoenix flea market (they have an uncountable number of useless, worthless and even confusing items that not even the most frivolous and wealthiest connoisseur would ever consider purchasing - the comparison is appropriate), I tend to feel a little bit claustrophobic and the natural urge to escape kicks in... negating the whole point of going to the gym in the first place.
This negative aspect may have been lessened with the right guide to show me around the place and introduce me to some of the more novel pieces of equipment, but no offer was ever put forward.
I decided not to complete the enrollment process and found a gym more suited to my own...
Read moreDo not sign up here unless you could care less about customer service and money. Worst management ever. Basically does not exist. We had a situation where my wife was injured and could not use her membership any longer after signing up only 4 weeks prior. After being charged an annual fee, two monthly fees and a cancel charge it was a complete waste of time and money. She was only able to use the gym twice. When asked to speak with a manager about getting some kind of break of any kind on 5 different occasions and told he will call you back we finally called customer care. We were told again someone would call us back and each time reminded of no chance of getting out of the cancel fee or annual charge after just one month. They said it was a waste of time to try. In other words they said they really don't care about their members no matter the circumstance if you tried to cancel. Don't be fooled by their so called no obligation promotions and read the fine print. Don't waste your time here and don't plan on getting to speak with a manager about anything unless you want to pay them money. Then I am sure the great and powerful OZ will pop out from behind the desk. Still no call back from the manager or anyone else. Read a few other reviews with the same issues. Go to MUV fitness. Just slightly higher price but no hidden fees and no deception. They take care of their members and are obviously more in tune to customer service. I guess we should have read reviews before signing up. Jeez Planet Fitness, I hope your extra 60 bucks was worth it I wonder how many people will read this and...
Read moreAre the people working the desk there to help you or there to be annoyed if you need something? I went in with a friend and didn't have a membership, When I asked about things the counter girl was short with me and when I had been told by a staff member earlier in the day I could come in with my friend and try the water massage bed she said I couldn't. Huh? I was told earlier today I could try it out? She then sharply asks if I was thinking about becoming a member "well are you thinking about becoming a member or not" I replied: well that's why I am here.. She gave me the free test or whatever on the bed. Let me tell you that if your expecting a lot from the massage beds be prepared to be disappointed I thought it was a 360 water massage nope just a thing you lay on and it shoots water at your back. While its an alright attempt at an included massage setup I suppose.. Its not the same as the ones you lay face down and water jets are setup above and below the bed. These are just a tough rubber bed that you lay on face up and it shoots water at the bed. I was on the fence with this gym mostly because they don't have free weight bars, which are great for training doing dead lifts. I could kinda modify workouts to achieve most of what I wanted but its difficult to get stabilizer muscles done without other free weights. Between the lack of weights and the random staff that thinks you are a problem, not a person they want to help I don't know if this...
