Spring Hill Public Library — Attraction in Spring Hill

Don't get too excited about checking out that book or cd or dvd, because if someone has placed that item on hold by either calling or online - after it has been placed on the shelf and made available to the public - and after you have removed it from the shelf to check out - you will have to forfeit it. As a new resident to Spring Hill, I applied for a library card. An item I had brought to the front desk for checkout was scanned, but I was told it was not available to me because someone else had placed it hold after it was placed on the shelf. Having worked in libraries, when an item is checked in, it will be scanned and if there is a hold, it will "trap" for that patron and be placed on the hold shelf. If there isn't a hold, then it is made available by placing it on the shelf. There might be a "hold" list where items are requested then pulled from the shelves or someone may phone in a request and then that item is pulled from the shelf, but once it is placed on the shelf - uh, no. I was told it was the policy of the manager. I said this didn't seem right and called later and asked to speak with the manager - the person I spoke with said she would tell the manager my concerns as did the person at checkout..Whether either was done I have no idea. No child - or adult - wants to take the time to browse and anticipate reading a book or watching a movie only to be told that your item(s) would have to be forfeited to someone who was in line after you. I am so grateful for this library. The book selection is fantastic. The space is modern, clean, and well organized. For a library in a small town, they've really kept up with offering services that serve a modern community. I especially appreciated the phone booths available as a first come, first serve offering. My home internet went out and continuing to work would have been very difficult without access to the library. The staff are always friendly, supportive, and kind. Not only is it clean and stag us nice but also I only had a $20 bill and asked for change for printers they not only said oh we have change it's ok, & handed me the 20cents, they did it twice, I printed the wrong page and again asked for change and was told, no it's ok we have a change dish just in case. They didn't have to do this and they did have enough to break the 20 because she checked. I just right this was the sweetest thing. So when I have extra change and go in I'll donate to that little...
