I think this gym is just OK. I have been coming since January and have noted the following issues: During certain times of day the parking lot is 100% full with no street parking or satellite options available. You have to sit in your car and wait for other people to leave the gym, which can take around 10-15 min. On a visit one Saturday I used a broken open stride machine and sprained my ankle. I reported it to staff immediately. The next day the machine was still broken and still in use by other people. I inquired into this and was told they will not take the machine out of service until a maintenance person can look at it during a weekday. Who knows how many people used the machine after I reported it. This shows a complete disregard to safety and clients health and wellness. Group fitness classes are cancelled too frequently and no notice is posted to the website or outside of the class, which is a colossal waste of time to clients. For me to get ready for class, drive to the gym, wait outside the class, then drive home wastes at least an hour of my time. In a gym with tons of employeees you would think they could have a sub available or post a notice to the website at least an hour in advance. They have closed the gym entirely for 1-2 inches of snow. I've lived in the Midwest my whole life and it is unheard of to close a business for less than 8-12 inches of snow. The group fitness equipment, fitness floor and elliptical petals are disgusting. There is dirt and grime on everything! All equipment should be cleaned by staff at least once a week (including foot petals, group fitness weights, etc). The group fitness floor should be mopped before every yoga or pilates class. In yoga you are often laying and standing on a dirty floor that people have been wearing outdoor shoes on all day. Very unsanitary. This is the dirtiest gym I have ever been to (including other YMCAs). They close around 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. This is often when I finish work and would like to go to the gym. This closing time is nowhere near industry standard. I would maybe understand if employees were staying till 10pm to clean ALL equipment, but that is not the case. In the 7 months I have been coming here certain classes like Body Pump are consistently full and have to turn people away, yet they have not increased class size or number of classes to account for the overflow. It's incredibly disappointing to show up to a class 5 min early or 1 min late and there is no space. 5 min early is the earliest the room becomes available too... If someone felt inclined to clean their own equipmemt before or after class there isn't even time. On at least 6 of my visits to this gym there was a member who runs around the gym yelling and screaming, screams at employees and clients, yells on his phone, etc. It is disruptive and anxiety inducing. He appears to be a high school age minor with no parental supervision at the gym. The staff placate him and answer his rude and disruptive questions and allow him to harrass members. He should be kicked out of this place, not babysat by staff. I know he is unsupervised because he frequently asks staff if his mom is there to pick him up yet. You can hear him yelling it through the entire gym. I've seen him get right up in members faces and ask rude and unnecessary questions. One time I was face down stretching and he interupted me to ask if it was my cell phone sitting literally 2" next to me. Then he ran up and harrassed a girl exiting the bathroom. It's crazy that they allow this member and behavior on a regular basis. The only pros I can think of is that it's relatively close to my house, they have free coffee (bring your own mug), and Body Pump (if you can fight your way in and secure a space)! Tons of room for...
Read moreI love this center. There was an issue regarding my credit card from outside source unrelated to the Y and they were so nice in helping me figure it out and went above and beyond. Any time I have questions about classes or what my likes or dislikes are and level I am able to perform they let me know what might be interesting to me or might would enjoy- in detail. They even offered if I was uncomfortable attending a class alone, that they would arrange someone to go with me. Skate board /bike park available with ramps, always fresh towels, a smiling face to help if needed at the desk. They offer different equipment and I love their sit down bicycle machine that helped me start. I’m a larger woman and I couldn’t just jump on a treadmill without feeling intimidated. They showed me the sit down machine that I pedal outward which is easy for me to transfer and out of. the seat good, and can adjust for my short arms and legs. My boyfriend has Parkinson’s and this machine fit him well , too, on being able to exercise and not worry about losing his balance. The machines resistance can be adjusted and you can even use your hands or not. There are three of them that are in front of a tv and a fan that makes me even feel guilty because it doesn’t feel like exercising . I can’t wait to start their arthritis swim. I observed it and it looks like something that would help me get comfortable with water and be kind to my knees as well. . I can’t swim and this is held in the shallow end so I’m excited. I have not had a chance to bring my grandchild for the indoor water slide yet. They have classes that accommodate people with ailments, disabilities and seniors like the chair exercises and will also offer a chair if needed in their tai chi classes as well. They have a kickboxing bag on site which I love to punch around on. They have plenty of cleaner so you can wipe the machines before or after. I do both since I’m a germaphobe. Haha! Police , Fire and EMS agencies are super close to...
Read moreI wish I could give 5 stars because I love taking spin classes (Dani is the best!), but I am constantly second guessing why I keep my membership. Here are just 2 issues I have had.
I know I signed the original paperwork agreeing to the pricing, but I recieved a letter last year stating that my membership was only going to increase $2.00 when I turned 30. Much to my surprise the month after, I started getting charged $44. When I called stating I received the letter stating my membership rate would increase to only $29 - the front desk staff was rude, kept me on hold and ended the call stating I could just terminate the membership if I couldn't afford it. My budget is not of concern, your integrity is.
Fast forward to Sept 25 this year. I went in on an average Wednesday night, thinking nothing out of the ordinary would happen. Within 20 minutes, a man approached me, asked me to take out my earbuds and began to introduce himself. He told me he 'liked what he saw,' while proceeding to look me up and down while I was on the leg press machine. I brushed it off, but HE CAME BACK OVER TO ME. Wanted to shake my hand and tell me good night, I declined. It was so inappropriate and creepy that I wanted to leave immediately - but didn't in case he was still outside. I called the front desk when I eventually did leave, which was very little help. I offered up the story, his name, the time it occured - he didn't want any of that information. Think the front desk guy's name was Joe (?), he got my name and number and told me his manager would call me in the morning. NEVER GOT A CALL. It is unacceptable to not take action against harrassment like this. Why would any woman feel safe enough to work out here, to change here or even walk to her car in the VERY dimly lit parking lot?
Thank you for sending the email blast, requesting to review your facility. Hopefully, this will actually get your attention and make your members and employees accountable for inappropriate...
