Uhuru Salon STL — Attraction in St. Louis

This place is a rare gem! They have licensed cosmetologist who braid and actually care about the health of your hair. Who knew that actually existed? Anyways, I walked in to the smell of sage and natural products with warm greetings from ALL the stylists. The shampoo woman was so sweet and literally provided me with the best head massage I’ve had in awhile!

After shampooing, I was offered mimosa and donuts, of course I accepted. Then I was walked to the dryer while the shampoo lady (sorry didn’t catch her name) held my purse while I stuffed my face with donuts and mimosa, haha.

Finally, Idarra the stylist, is a loc hero! She uses quality, organic products that she makes at home and it smells immaculate! I just started my journey and I came in looking for guidance and a better loc look. She was able to provide me with quality service and all the education I need to maintenance my hair. She is a lil more expensive than the avg $50-$55 but I promise you it’s worth every penny! Trust, I’m the cheapest person in life but I definitely paid the price and tipped. Booked an appointment here to get my hair dyed blue in March. And during the bleaching process my hair started to burn more than the normal amount. I ended up having to get the bleach washed out of my hair early. But my mom had to insist for the hairstylist to wash the bleach out of my hair early. The hairstylist didn't want to because "it wouldn't look right". After washing my hair the hair stylist tried to put the blue over my barely bleached hair and it turned a decent looking brown color. But when I was sitting under the dryer I noticed that the hair stylist had used VOLUME 50 DEVELOPER on my hair!! And if you know anything about hair you would know that you should NEVER EVER use volume 50 on hair!! Thank goodness my mom insisted on not letting the bleach sit on my hair any longer. Because who knows if I'd have any hair left if she had. My hair still ended up damaged. But since my hair is short, after cutting the bleached part of my hair off and oiling my hair alot, my hair has pretty much gone back to normal. Will definitely never be coming back here!! I would give this place 0 stars...

There is a comfortable, easy-going atmosphere that encourages patrons to relax and interact with their stylists and with each other with a sense of community and comeraderie. Patrons are asked to wear masks and wash their hands upon entering in order to maintain a safe, healthy environment. The owner/hair care specialist, Erica, is a creative stylist who provides her clients with beautiful works of hair art that garner admiration and compliments from everyone who sees it!
