This use to be a great place to eat for cheap, they have gotten so high and they went up on prices before pandemic so they canāt use that for an excuse, I would still come but had to ask for prices on stuff because the board they have do not reflect the prices that they were charging and they would pass the charges to your debt and credit card if you spent under a certain amount and wouldnāt even tell you they did it, I went another time and order the same thing but pay different prices, I would ask why is the prices different every time I come. Then that is when they told me how they pass the price to the customers I told them itās your job to inform the customers on what you are doing before you charge them and they may get an option on this situation, that didnāt stop me from going I just started to use cash instead to avoid extra fees that were being passed to the people without their knowledge. They went up on prices again were a 1/2 box of rice $6 or more for pork and even more if you get anything else, extra onion or egg is $1 each and so on still no problem I would still go I begin to limit the amount of times I would go, now itās no meat in the rice if so itās all fat meat no onions anymore or old meat that look about 2 weeks old or older and still limited on that, we have to choose to be desperate or done with the none sense or foolish or being made a fool of, I canāt believe the health department havenāt made them up grade that place, ceiling look horrible and time for change all around the place even better attitudes with the people that work there, they treat people like garbage and thatās been for years and I have spoken to them about it, time for change and Iām refusing to return in 2023 to Hong...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo, I stumbled upon this gem while finishing a progeny at (Hong Kong express). Let me tell you, I was totally clueless about its existence until then. From the get-go, the vibe was super welcoming. Kevin, the guy who runs the place, and āMama,ā his grandma who also whips up magic in the kitchen, were just the best hosts. I dove into a plate of beef and broccoli that came with a side of fried rice and crab Rangoon, and oh boy, was I in for a treat.
They also served up this combo with fried wings, chicken egg rolls, and more fried rice. And get this, Grandma handed me this fried crab thingy (not sure what it's called on the menu, but it's basically deep-fried imitation crab meat), and it was a game-changer. Simple, yet the mix of flavors and textures was out of this world.
The beef and broccoli? The moment I spotted those unevenly chopped veggies, I knew we weren't dealing with any frozen stuff here. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the flavor was just bang-on. Fresh, crunchy veggies paired with this beef in a way that was nothing short of a culinary symphony. The fried rice? Perfect sidekick. And the crab Rangoon, while not groundbreaking, was fresh and hit the spot with its crispiness.
The combo plate didn't disappoint either. The wings and egg roll were seasoned to perfection, crispy and just yum. But the real MVP was that fried crab ā the batter was a perfect mix of savory and sweet, crispy on the outside and smooth on the inside. So light and tasty, you'd easily wolf down an entire order without realizing.
I'm definitely hitting this place up again and would urge anyone to give it a try. Trust me, you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm from St Louis but I live out of town. So when I come to Saint Louis I get Chinese food from Hong Kong Express. I have been getting food from Hong Kong Express for over 20 years. I wondered why on google the rating was 4.1 with was low considering how long they been there. Now that I got food from Hong Kong Express on Grand I see why. The Hong Kong Express on Grand closes at 9:30pm. It was 9:15pm and they said the kitchen was closed and they wasn't making any more food. They was turning away customers coming into Hong Kong Express on Grand that came in at 9:20 which was crazy. i asked for a side of gravy I was told kitchen was closed this was at 9:20pm. Now it don't take long to cook gravy. I had 2 big orders that cost 200 dollars so I took my time over the phone placing it to make sure she got everything. When I got to Hong Kong Express on Grand the young lady called me slow. She stated I talked to slow so she was going to repeat my order to me. This is very poor customer service to insult your customers. Its a lot of Chop suey restaurants in Saint Louis that service the same items that Hong Kong Express on Grand have with better customer service and stay open later.
I hope the Hong Kong Express on Jefferson don't have bad customer service and don't...
