The falls were delightful. You have to hunt and peck to find the best way to get directly beneath them from either the trail or the parking lot. There is a shelf behind the falls and small wading pools, as well. On a Sunday in the summer, there were about 15-20 other people. I imagine the falls become more or less dramatic depending on water levels, so maybe a late spring trip is best?
We accessed them through what turned out to be a fun hike starting at the Natural Sliding Rock parking lot. Maybe half mile? It took my family (including two small kids) about a half an hour each way. The walk mostly borders the river so we got to watch rafters hit the rapids. Lots of broad flat rocks to walk on. But the hike also involved some scrambling uphill, under fallen trees, and over roots, too. It was a true trail, not a level, crushed limestone path! Follow the yellow blazes.
The gorge where Cucumber Falls enter is lovely and worth the short trek down to the where it meets the main river. It was shady and cool in there and really I didn't want to leave because, even with all the people, it was relaxing...
Read moreAmazing falls for the family. A small walk to falls from the parking area. Parking could be challenging due to the Parkin space available. But there is a moderate about 20 cars can be parked along the road, but the walk could be little longer. If you don’t get parking near by falls then only option to park in OhioPyle falls parking and walk. It’s definitely worth walking. I went here couple of times one time the water flow was lot so the falls, but the last trip was bit ok due to less water flow and falls. You will be able to take a dip in the water ( expect it always bit cold water). Amazing view and falls. If you are near by this area don’t forget to check here. No restrooms , no dress changing area , little walk down to falls about 100 steps (wooden). Lot of rocks to reach the falls but not terrible and...
Read moreA disappointment if you are everything but a beginner hiker. It is fun for kids, at least I've seen them enjoying the place. You can access from the cucumber fall trail (probably half mile or so to the falls) or from Ohiopyle making it a mile or so hike but with nice slopes and rocky terrain walking a section along the river. I've come here multiple times and clearly always the wrong times because I either saw just a trickle or nothing at all. Being a very easy hike/walk it gets very crowded but if you are an early bird you might be able...
