All i wanna say is, what the what? I came here the other day to explore this ethnic museum, just to learn and see works of art from fellow latinos, but then i was thrown off of the entrance to the establishment. I parked my car where google maps lead me to the location, and i found myself in a ugly, under construction portion of the spot. It was an eyesore really, and i thought i was at the wrong part of town, or worse, google maps incorrectly guided me there. Then i got out, and i was facing this tacky wall art , walked in front of it towards the end, and as i walked further, i stumbled upon a shady black door. To the side, there was a window where i got a glance of what looked like a store or another taqueria. I saw elderly women relaxing in there conversing, and i assumed they owned the place. They got a good look at me and simply stared at me as if they got a problem. I walked further down until i hit the corner of the building, took a left, and what do you know, i came to the entrance. They had a posting on the front door of the hours, and it was indeed the art museum! Guess me and google maps weren’t wrong after all. But then to my disappointment, i saw a closed sign hanging, and i did my research, and i know i came at the right time frame! i was nervous to knock on the door for inquiry, because based on those ladies facial expressions, they weren’t gonna be so welcoming. So i darted to my vehicle, left, and felt nothing but disappointment and embarrassment. My trip to Stockton was for nothing! Never felt...
Read moreThe hours are the same time I’m at work so when I had to leave work early today to take care of something at the recorders office I told my daughter let’s go! I went in and the young lady in the little cafe was really nice! We walked in and I saw what I went in to see.. the Barrio del chivo display. It was almost closing time but she put the video on for us to see.. it’s not my era but seeing the pictures, the clothes, the motions from the city took me to a place in my culture that made me proud, sad and angry all at the same time! I will make it a point to keep going back at least to grab some coffee early in the morning, sit for a minute or two to continue embracing all that is in the gallery! Loved it! First time there but definitely not the last! :) p.s for those folks who complain about the outside.. those are the people that can’t see beyond what’s there..some parts of downtown aren’t the best but I wasn’t there to see the parking or outside building (Sutter St. side) I was there to embrace the...
