It's been steadily slipping for a couple of years..... I suspect that's due to one of the elders retiring or passing away. I haven't seen the older lady who used to make the tortillas by hand there in a long time.
On the service side I can see where some people would be really pleased to get their food in less than 5 minutes, but, I'm of the opinion that it's ok to wait and get food that's treated less like it's being tossed on a plate on a production line or buffet and more like it's being made with a little more love and care, but perhaps that's not their way anymore. As such, the food tasted mass produced, bland and unfortunately tonight, an entire half of a wishbone was in the chicken enchiladas..... not the first time. Worse yet, it didn't really phase them when we brought it to their attention. It's possible that because we're regulars they just kind of figured we wouldn't mind. Having spent 25 years in the restaurant business I could be very forgiving of an occasional accident when handled appropriately, but it wasn't. And considering I almost choked on this "accident" , I don't believe that the equivalent of an "oh well" is appropriate under any circumstance.
I would exercise caution here when ordering based on this issue, on top of the fact that the downtown area has been getting progressively rougher over the years. Tonite was typical - a homeless young lad begging for change by the front door, and the usual lunatic yelling explicit obscenities to anyone that would listen. It's unfortunate all the way around and to be honest, given the situation over all, I'm not sure it's worth the risk getting in the door or wondering what you'll be getting once inside. It's a huge disappointment thinking we may lose yet another locally owned restaurant that's been around so long but given recent events, and the location, I suspect the writing is...
Read moreMy reason for the two stars is because I ordered a chicken taco on the side food came I went to bite the taco and the juice that was in the taco was so hot it burned my lip causing me to release the bite as my lip kept throbbing as I was trying to eat my other food that was ordered I went to the restroom and looked at my lip and had a burn /blister that is very visible I let my waitress know so that no one else gets burned like that I couldn’t enjoy the rest of my food I went to pay and asked if they can take the taco off because i did not eat it and showed her my lip and explained I have never been burned like this she said is this ur first time here it’s fried and comes out really hot and because they made the taco already they could not take it back I let her know I did not eat it and explained I couldn’t even enjoy my food because of the burn she said I can come back later and talk to the owner which was very disappointing being that I was burnt with a visible blister on my lip shown to her. And still had to pay for a taco that I was gonna leave because I did not touch it after the attempt to eat it, it’s not like I was trying to get free food I didn’t eat it and being that I was hurt by the burn they where not able to accommodate me the customer by taking a single taco off that I did not eat and was gonna leave behind. I went ahead and payed for it and just said I will not return...
Read moreFirst of all Stockton has some of the best Mexican Restaurants. It's good if they've been at the same location forever! Xochimilco Cafe is one of these restaurants. Put what you know of Mexican food aside and enjoy their amazingly seasoned, moist, flavorful food. Did I mention you get a good portion and their tacos are filled with lots of meats. I seem to end up getting #3 All Chicken Combo , warning though, it does come with s small portion chile verde and chile colorado. This is a big combo plate what comes with fried taco shell, enchilada, and chile relleno. It's a hearty, stomach filling order! If you go during the week, park in the back, in the public parking lot and bring your parking stub inside to get a half hour discount on your parking. If you go on the weekends, park...
