Impression's Beauty Salon — Attraction in Sunrise

I had a terrible first and last experience with Impressions Salon of Sunrise yesterday. My issues were the lack of professionalism, the start time, the stylist (I wish I would’ve gotten her name, however she is the owner/main stylist) setting an appointment in a time that was obviously unfitting for her, starting work she knew she was unable to do, passing me on to an inexperienced person without my consent and consistently changing the rates and treating it like a barter system.

I was connected to Impressions Instagram account, where I reached out to send pictures of my locs and to ask questions about services. I was told they can repair a few of my thinning locs and was given a 5pm appointment. I thought the time was a bit late to start services but considering they offered it, I accepted.

I arrived to my appointment by 4:50pm on Monday, 11/25/2019 and was told by the stylist who scheduled me to have a seat. She had a client in her chair. At 5:45pm the same stylist said that she was too tired and will not be able to do my hair but called someone to come in and do my hair. This is where the problems began. As I wasn’t upset about the late start time, initially.

My hair is not in the best condition due to inexperienced stylists not knowing how to properly care for my locs, so I was not interested in having a person whose work I had not seen doing my hair. I expressed my concerns to the stylist and she said she would repair the thinning locs as “the other girl doesn’t know how to do that then she would have the other girl do my hair”. Though this did not sit well with me, I was in desperate need of having 5 locs repaired before they fell off so I neither verbally agreed or disagreed but sat in her chair to have my locs repaired.

The master stylist took off the first loc then began to complain that the loc was too short for her to reattach (as if she didn’t see my length before detaching it or as if she didn’t notice the length in the picture I sent over before scheduling when inquiring about having the locs repaired). She offered to attach someone else’s loc to my hair that was twice the width of my loc, to which I declined. She moved forward in repairing the loc as she had already taken it off. After repairing two locs she asked “can I just repair those two?”

She then told me to go be seated. I was confused as to where she was referring so I asked where. She told me to go sit at the shampoo bowl. The stylist she wanted to do my hair had arrived by this time but had not made an effort to be helpful in telling me where to go, instead they were conversing in Creole about my hair. The shampoo bowl they told me to be seated at had a dirty towel in the bowl that was not removed. The girl finally came over to shampoo my hair and was inattentive the entire 5 mins she was washing my hair. She was so engulfed in a conversation about a client receiving a pedicure who they were talking about in Creole as well, to the point where she did not properly wash my hair or pay attention the 2 times she asked about the style I wanted.

At this point, I knew that I would not proceed with services as I would only become further frustrated, would end up wasting more of my time to only leave dissatisfied in the end. Therefore, I told the second stylist that I would not continue with my hair and instead would leave. She thought it was just in reference to the differences in prices from what they had listed on Instagram versus the price they quoted just before shampooing that consistently was going up; so she stated “you can just stay and have it done. She will work with you on the price.” I informed her that I was not interested and would pay for the attachments then leave. I told this to the backup and main stylist. The main stylist told me I would need to pay $50 for 3 poorly attached locs and for a terrible shampoo. I told her that I would not pay $50, paid $33 and wish I wouldn’t have because an hour later one of the locs she...

Unfortunately, my experience at this salon was disappointing from start to finish. It’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve gotten my hair braided and I want to share my experience. I had a 9:00 AM appointment for boho knotless braids. I arrived on time however the braiders didn’t start arriving until 9:05 AM and didn’t open the salon doors until 9:07 AM. After I was let in, I was then asked to text my number to the owner on one of the braiders phone number so they could confirm my appointment. I was then asked to pay before the service began—which felt a bit unprofessional, especially since they didn’t have change available.

Despite my appointment being at 9:00 AM, my hair didn’t get started until 10:45 AM because she was prepping the hair. They did send me a text prior to saying it would be about a 45 min wait so they could prep the hair but it was definitely more than that. You just get randomly matched to a braider, you can not make a request. I was quoted that it would take 6 hours but it took more.

Well after starting my hair at 10:45, the braided didn’t finish until braiding until about 6:30 PM, and the stylist asked if I wanted my ends curly (I said yes), so she dipped them in hot water with rods, finally finishing around 7:00 PM.

Overall, I’m not impressed. The braids are way too full. The sizes of the braids on my head and how thick each braids are are uneven. The back is smedium with decent amount of hair however as you get closer to the front, the braids sizes got bigger and the amount of weave she uses got bigger. I had way too much boho hair on each braids, most especially at the front of my hair had 5-7 boho hair on each braid. I could not even put my hair in a ponytail. (This should have been asked prior to as I work in the medical field and I can not have my hair down on my shoulders. Not everyone is looking for full vacation boho braids. Not to mention, My edges were left undone and just coated with thick edge control.

As this was my first time getting this style, I didn’t know what to expect, but the result looks nothing like what they advertise on social media.

If you're new to getting your hair braided, I wouldn’t recommend this salon. It seems better suited for clients who already know exactly what to ask for. I would also advise bringing your own hair and asking the braider to stop several times to check the progress so you aren’t disappointed like me.

The braider obviously braided my hair very slow. The experience just didn’t meet my expectations. I won’t be returning. And unfortunately I had to take my hair out after 2 weeks because I couldn’t take how heavy it was or how it looked....

I would recommend this salon honestly only for convenience and something needed fast. Maybe I just didn’t care for the braider but my aunt has also went here and didn’t really enjoy the experience either but this is just my truth not to bash black business for trying but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t hold others accountable. So I booked this hairstyle within the same week read their rules/fees and ensured to come with my hair washed and blow dried. I suffer from dry scalp which as most black ppl do so I personally always try to keep my scalp and hair somewhat moisturized because it is a MUST(either with grease, shea butter, or light hair moisturizer) Which goes into my next thing if you’re a natural girlie like me and do try to have a hair regimen and healthy hair practices this place really isn’t for you. Anyway,I get there it’s early so I don’t really expect anyone to be upbeat it’s early I don’t really wanna talk but was taught to say good morning and those things, get in the chair and the lady ask what color hair and ask black? I let her no my hair is actually a brownish with blonde-like undertones. The moment I pulled the bonnet off I was met with a her head being tilted back mouth open and almost disturbance in the face? Ig as if I answered wrong lol idk. She takes time to find my hair color we get started she blow dries my hair again I accept cause I don’t really want to be met with attitude but then once we’re done she begins to comb my hair with the rat tail comb which I kindly ask her to not do so and if she may have a separate comb or brush to use but I’m met with attitude as if I asked for too much but she stops but sooner then later she begins again and this time I can feel and hear my hair ripping atp I accepted it cause Ik I’m getting a trim soon so I’ll just cut off the more damage she creates sadly and try not to bud in anymore. As she begins to do the style it seems they use edge control to do styles which I didn’t realize but now know this is just gonna bother the heck out of my scalp do too how much product was used as you can see in the pictures but this is just my honest experience and opinion it didn’t give salon experience I would say.
