My perspective may be a little skewed on this one, so don't hate me. I recently went on a bird walk down near Beaufort, SC and it was awesome. Tons of birds, a few alligators and an actual trail to walk on. It was quiet and peaceful, except for all the bird noises of course.
So based on that experience, Carl Bazemore Bird Walk was a huge let down. Unless I'm missing something, it's just a 70 foot or so board walk with some benches and those binocular type stands. It's right alongside a busy road, and the view is blocked by tall reeds and stuff. I wanted to post some pictures for this review, but I realized I didn't even take any. Shows how exciting it was for us.
With that said, I've only been there once. From pictures other people have posted it looks like you can see alligators sometimes. Maybe we were there on...
Read moreI mean, there's not a whole lot here, really. But it will hold your interest longer than you expect.
It's just a boardwalk maybe 50 yards long, with a narrow parking lot in front of it along the road, in a small pond on the other side. An island in that small pond is one of the holes of the golf course the boardwalk looks over. Sounds super boring, right?
But there are some alligators in that pond, and they're interesting to watch. There's also a mess of shorebirds - egrets, herons, etc .. - that congregate in areas. Attached to the boardwalk is a nice tourist binocular, free to use, and that can make watching the birds and gators interesting if they don't happen to come up close to the boardwalk.
All in all, a great place to chill for a while and watch the sunset... or rise, if...
Read moreI'm giving this 3 🌟 only because as many times as I've been here, I didn't know it was a bird walk until Google brought up today for me to review. I thought it was an alligator viewing platform, lol. Plenty of those! There are much better places to view birds, but I have never come here and not seen at least 1 alligator. Our timing was perfect this trip. A Sunset Beach wildlife officer had caught an alligator and was releasing it back to the wild. We watched the whole thing. He allowed us to touch it and spent a lot of time explaining to us about catching them, releasing them, and the fines for feeding or killing them (NOT cheap!!)....
