THE PIER IS NOW OPEN! Thanks to Hurricane Matthew in 2016 the pier was damaged and closed and the infamous Surf Diner along with it. With projected completion dates that came and went, delays and public hopefulness this long overdue project is in its final stages. The fishing pier itself (no fishing as of right now) and Drippy’s Ice Cream, which was locked when we were there, are officially open. Future dates for a bait shop, restaurant and another shop have yet to be announced. Don’t hold your breath as these are just bare shells at the moment. Gone are the good old days with the rustic wood pier and homey shops and restaurant to a commercial, concrete structure that has fishing stations, cleaning sinks, benches and a small wood pavilion at the end. Even the buildings, clean and bright, lack character and feel sterile. Paid parking and modern bathrooms are available, along with miles of family friendly, beautiful beach, restaurants within walking distance and downtown...

The guy who says he owns the pier can't get his rule straight. Last the year me and my son bought 2 float passes and he stopped us saying we where only allowed 3 poles for float fishing when I asked about the old timers bringing carts full of poles he said they have season passes. This year I buy season float pass and bring 3 rods to flounder fish and he stops me and says if you don't have anchor rod and fighting rod you can't have 3 poles. Try and ask some questions and him and his girlfriend get really nasty so I ask for refund They say no refunds because they don't keep the money and tell me that sales are final since they are so good at the rules I asked where that is in the rules or posted and they said it don't have to be and that I have to go too the town council to get my money back!!!!! Are you seriously kidding me. They take advantage of tourist and try to get over where they can. Save yourself a headacheand go...

I would give this zero stars if I could! This is a nice pier with some great views. However, the owner there at the shop is extremely rude. He screamed at my young children for trying to get on the pier without paying. They were just excited and didn't understand at first that it cost money to go out. I then gave him the $$ so they could walk out and he went on to yell at me that I was trying to get by without paying and that I thought I was above the rules, and that I was trespassing, etc.. After I paid, he asked me and my kids to leave. Unbelievable! It was so bad that a family behind me ended up leaving because they saw this happening. This is supposed to be a family beach but I left here with my kids in tears because he was screaming at us. Go to the other piers in the area and avoid being treated so badly!!! I have never dealt with someone so rude or that would talk to...
