A very nice local Museum located in what used to be a destitute area in Polk County because of the sulfur dioxide emissions from the copper mining plant. A very much needed reforestation effort over the years has drastically changed the area for the most part to blend in with the adjacent surrounding area and to clean up the runoff water into the local streams and rivers. The 10 minute introduction movie and the host who accompanied us around the museum helped us to see what the conditions were like during the peak of the mining process. The walking tour encourages visitors to experience the mine operations through a spatial platform - being able to walk to buildings and see equipment up close. The coordinating interp panels provide the details on the structure/object, what it was used for, and often have historic images of it in use.
