Bernard Jewelers — Attraction in Tewksbury

I came in here with my fiance to get my ring appraised for insurance. My mother had mentioned that she saw that they were doing appraisals on a Friday from 10am-2pm on their sign so we decided to go in. When we came in, we were greeted by Alex. I informed her that we were there for an appraisal and she seemed annoyed. She let me know that it was going to be $125. I had mentioned that my mom thought that she saw the appraisals were being offered for free that day during the event but either way, it didn’t matter and we would proceed. She laughed and said with an attitude, “Uh nope it’s a service. You obviously have to pay for a service”. I said that my mom obviously read it wrong on the sign and that we would pay it no problem. When she grabbed my ring, she asked if we had any paperwork to go with it. I had mentioned as soon as we got there that it was a lab grown diamond. My fiance gave her the paperwork and receipt, while I gave her my ring. She looked at them both and started laughing and said with a disgusted face, “you paid this for that?”. She then went on to tell my fiance that he got screwed on the ring and kept laughing. I did have an idea of the cost since I was the one that picked out the ring, but she did not know our situation and it was extremely rude and unprofessional. When we went back later to get my ring, she said nothing and held out her hand with the ring as soon as we walked in. When I grabbed my ring from her, even after everything prior, I said “thank you so much” and smiled. No your welcome or anything from her, she literally just stared at us. I felt extremely uncomfortable with her just staring, so I asked how we would receive the appraisal, to break the silence, since she did not provide us with any information. Both times we went in that day, she was acting uninterested and gave an attitude. I had asked about wedding bands before her whole comment about the price, because we were genuinely going to go back there to purchase our bands, because of feedback I had heard from others. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. She was extremely rude and we will not be returning for our wedding bands and...

I just want to start off with the fact I am a small business owner myself, an Esthetician that works down the street from Bernard’s! I learned about this jeweler through literally almost EVERY single client of mine, telling me how much they loved this jeweler and how incredible everyone was inside! I ended up taking their words for it and went in for our wedding bands, the second I walked in I was welcomed with ear to ear smiles by everyone there! While we were looking at rings the owner and her daughter were extremely informative and helpful (even told us buying a man’s wedding band that was 400$ Wasn’t something he should do because of the job he’s in working with his hands and such) we ended up buying him an 80$ one instead that was LITERALLY PERFECT!!!! That right there showed me how genuine this small business is, it’s not about the money - it’s about the clients happiness and to save where they can!!!
