I've seen a few other reviews about this place that are "so so" in my opinion. As someone who has visited Belmont and other tracks a few times, I'll lay out its pluses and minuses as a place to visit for both fans and people who just want to get out of the house for a while.
Pros: ---There are few more historic venues than Belmont Park in the entire country and probably the world. So much history has happened here from Man o' War (whose original owner and breeder served as Belmont's namesake), Secretariat's seemingly impossible Belmont Stakes run, the final leg of all the Triple Crown winners, the final races of Ruffian (who is buried in the infield near the flagpole!) and Go For Wand, Tiznow's second and historic Breeders' Cup Classic win, and more. ---On normal days and many stakes days it is free to park in general parking with a $3 admission price for the grandstand. Not many sports can top that. There are shuttle buses to bring you to the gates, but I honestly prefer taking a walk to the gates which is about a quarter mile away. --Great racing. The best of the best come to race here. --Breakfast at Belmont: from 7 to about 9:30 there is a morning workout show with quick-serve breakfast available (eggs, sausage, cereals, juice, coffee, pancakes) complete with announcer commentary about many horses on the track and factual information about racing. It's not unusual to see a famous jockey, trainer, or horse pop up amongst the patrons or on the track! Head to the first floor clubhouse to park, enter, and also after eating take a tram tour through the backside of Belmont Park to see all the behind-the-scenes stuff and a starting gate demo. The tour is free and breakfast is quite reasonably priced. ---NYRA often has cool giveaway days, watch their website or their Facebook for when and what they're giving away.
Cons: ---Some things are expensive, i.e. vendor food, but I've seen pricier fare at other sports venues. ---Hotel stays nearby can be expensive, and it's difficult to stay really locally because the neighborhood around Hempstead Ave is not very attractive or settling. ---Traffic can be a nightmare, so choose your arrival time wisely! This IS New York. Usually on the weekends it is not that bad to arrive and leave... Belmont Day can be a little busier traffic-wise. ---Belmont Stakes Day is very crowded and hectic there, which is the tradeoff for attending one of the biggest races in the country. Admission is $10 that day among other expected price hikes. ---Some things are dated, but the "backyard" with the saddling paddock is very nice. Nice water fountain, vendors, and picnic-style area to relax near.
Belmont has its good parts and bad parts, but is certainly worth experiencing for yourself as there's something for everyone to enjoy whether or not they're lucky playing the races. It's not New York's finest track-- that honor goes to Saratoga Race Course, which has a shortened summer meet during July and August-- but it's nonetheless an enormous...

I went to Belmont Park for the Stars and Stripes Festival. My visit that day was anything but pleasant! Everything that I needed to locate was hard to find! The programs were being sold outside the facility, not upon entering after paying your admission. I had to ask someone where the free tee shirt giveaway was situated. They ran out of all size small or medium shirts! The voucher I had scanned for cash to bet with or keep was only worth five bucks! Big Deal!!! The food I purchased from one of the food trucks wasn't cheap either. Eight dollars for a pulled pork sandwich. At the bar inside the facility I purchased a small craft beer which was seven bucks! I think everything goes up in price for a so-called special event here at the track! But leaving the track was the worst! I had to ask several different personnel for information concerning bus service back to the parking field. After almost twenty minutes I caught bus to the blue field. The driver complained that he wasn't supposed to be taking me there among other complaints in general. I shouldn't be feeling like I was putting someone out for something that I need to use? When I got to the field I couldn't find my car for almost thirty minutes. There were lines of new cars for sale parked there for God knows what reason. I was really getting panicky nervous that I wouldn't find my vehicle at all!!! For above reasons I truly hesitate to make a return visit. I really enjoy horse racing!! It's a shame that the folks running things don't take people dissatisfaction...
