Chocolate Expo is our annual tradition. The variety of vendors selling chocolate, cookies, cakes, alcohol, and accessories is always impressive. Most of them have tasting samples helping to decide what you will buy.

Went there for 2024 Long Island FRC regionals, was also there earlier for hackathons. Although the university may seem bad in terms of ranking, all the facilities and faculties are very nice.

It’s nice and clean have large parking lot. I like their large auditorium. Enough room. Overall good.

I had the honor of attending Hofstra for my undergrad (bachelors). I will speak on the overall experience which includes class structure (quality of professors), campus life, the food, and dorming. Starting with the dorms. I do not think I could have gotten any luckier. I ended up having a double all to myself my senior year which was great. I was able to have visitors stay over, and had all the privacy one could want. My room was also right next to the restroom which is a plus; pretty close to having your own bathroom without having to clean it. I never had any issue with the living conditions and am thankful to be as lucky as I was in that regard. Campus life was exceptional as well. They have their fair share of social events offering free food, and the social scene here is pretty good. Coming in as a transfer student, I was a bit nervous about getting accustomed to a new setting but I got pretty comfortable during welcome week. Lets rip the bandaid off with the food; I graduated years ago, so perhaps there were some changes. While I was there, the food was so bad, I was begging commuters to buy me Mcdonalds and paying them back in meal points here-it was not an even split because I was that desperate. When the campus food is so bad that Mcdonalds seems like a delicacy, that is an issue. Not all the food was as bad, but the best food I could get was on South Campus at Bits and Bites which may be called something else by now. I always left the Students Center caf hitting the unsatisfied button, but the food was still edible of course. Every burger I had was overcooked to the point of rubber, and the chicken I had may as well have been rubber. Now getting to the most important part, the classes/professors. In regards to expertise on the subjects, of course the professors were quite good. I did learn a good amount in my classes and did not have any issue with most of the professors, but my biggest complaint is these people seem to be stuck in the 1950’s. I received an iPad from the school which is great, but no one told me I would not be allowed to use it in class. Yup that is right many professors do not allow electronics. This is so stupid, I can’t even find the words but wait until you hear the reasons. Firstly, I do not handwrite. I have accommodations for this, and there is no reason period any class should require me to do so with the technology at the time. NO ONE SHOULD NEED ACCOMODATIONS ANYWAY. There is no need to assume students need to use the same tools as 1950. In fact to do so would be preparing us for a world that has already passed. I had to go up the ladder and talk to the dean about this and finally after some battles, got to use my iPad or computer in class. One professor said that I was only allowed to use an app on the iPad for note taking and he insisted on checking it after every class. Again, had to talk to student services to get my right to use the device that I rightfully owned. Did Hofstra give me this iPad to play games and flash to other student, or can I use it to help me? Can we get with the program here? I have been told that they think we could be online on our computers and not paying attention in class. Okay, this is not high school it is college we pay to be there. If we want to waste our tuition money not paying attention in class, the professor should not care. In fact, I should not even lift a finger to prevent it. Don’t ruin easy note taking abilities for everyone because you want people to pay attention. If they don’t, give them a lousy grade. I was sick and tired of being asked to put my computer away. NO this is college and a lot of money is being spent to be here. I do not take kindly to such idiotic rules that did nothing but slow me down. Overall, good school but please stop with the moronic no computers in class rules. If you gotta talk to individual professors, do it. This shocked me in the most negative way possible. Overall, my time at Hofstra was satisfactory with some potential for...

Class of 2012 here. Hofstra was a miserable place when I was a student there, and they basically set me up for financial ruin. First, keep in mind that in 2017, Hofstra, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, brought in more than a half a BILLION dollars in revenue, according to their Form 990. They pay their president a million-dollar salary plus perks while horribly abusing the actual educators. Also, he's unreachable because his office is atop a golden elevator that's guarded at all times. #Education

Hofstra misrepresented my financial aid package every semester I was there, and when I graduated I had twice the debt I was told I'd have. By the time I finish paying, I'll have spent almost $200,000 on my degree. And let me assure you, the jobs ain't paying that much.

Speaking of jobs, when I called the career services office for help because my current job's at a dead-end and I'm having trouble finding a new one in my field, the office refused to speak to me unless I paid them. They won't offer their alums career services, but they're SUPER quick to send me donation requests. Because a half a billion is just not covering it I guess (and the half billion isn't counting the $35 million they got in donations last year, before you @ me).

Honestly, go to a state school. Farmingdale State is 15 minutes from Hofstra and you can get a 4-year degree there for the cost of 1 year at Hofstra. Whatever positive academic experience I had has been completely overshadowed by the fraud and nonsense this place pulled. Don't ruin your future. Stay away...

I applied to Hofstra (and got in), but I REALLY wanted to go to a small private LAC up in New England, that was the undergraduate college experience I was ACTUALLY seeking; since I'd attended a large, crowded public Brooklyn high school. Therefore, I ended up attending college up in Amherst. MA. Being from Brooklyn, I just wanted a COMPLETE change of life pace.

LOL, the biggest "draw" to Hofstra for me was that Francis Ford Coppola had attended the University. 🤣 As a Theater 🎭/Film 📽️ student, this did have a little sway on me. Hofstra has a VERY NICE campus (and EXCELLENT Theater & Film Facilities), but I actually preferred the campus of nearby Adelphi University in Garden City (the only other college on LI I ended up applying to, where Jonathan Larson who'd created the musical "Rent" attended college) I thought it was the more "classically" architecturally beautiful campus; but that obviously should NEVER be a student's sole reason to choose a particular college or university.

I also applied and got in to Adelphi, but Hofstra is DEFINITELY the academically better and more superior University overall between the two. Hofstra is also affiliated with NYU, and I 💜'd and had also applied to NYU/Tisch & Gallatin. I would have ended up at Hofstra had I...
