Review: Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the enchanting Buttermilk Falls in New York, and I was utterly captivated by its natural beauty and tranquil ambiance. Nestled amidst lush greenery and cascading waterfalls, this hidden gem proved to be a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The star of the show at Buttermilk Falls is, of course, the stunning waterfall that gives the place its name. As I hiked along the well-maintained trails, the sound of rushing water filled the air, creating a serene and calming atmosphere. The falls themselves were a sight to behold, with water cascading down moss-covered rocks in a mesmerizing display of nature’s power and grace.
One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear pools at the base of the falls. The refreshing water invigorated my senses as I submerged myself in its embrace, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection with the natural world around me. It was a truly invigorating and rejuvenating experience that left me feeling refreshed and at peace.
Aside from the waterfalls, Buttermilk Falls offers picturesque picnic areas where visitors can relax and enjoy a meal surrounded by nature’s splendor. The park is well-maintained, with clean facilities and ample seating options. It’s the perfect spot for a family outing, a romantic picnic, or simply a moment of solitude amidst the beauty of nature.
The hiking trails at Buttermilk Falls are varied and suitable for all levels of fitness. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a novice explorer, you’ll find trails that cater to your preferences. As I traversed the paths, I was treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and glimpses of wildlife. The park’s trails are well-marked and offer a mix of shaded areas and open vistas, providing a delightful hiking experience.
Overall, my visit to Buttermilk Falls was a truly memorable one. The combination of picturesque waterfalls, serene swimming spots, and well-maintained trails made for a perfect day immersed in nature’s embrace. Whether you’re seeking adventure, tranquility, or simply a break from the ordinary, Buttermilk Falls is a destination that will leave you awe-struck and yearning to return. It’s a place where time seems to stand still, allowing you to connect with nature and find solace...
Read moreI was there twice. On August 9th, 2024, after heavy storm, the water flow was CRAZY. Of course no swimming allowed with that strong current, but the gorge trail was beautiful, and Park was open includes bathroom, although a storm warning was still in effect. There is a nice playground across the small bridge where kids who can't do the gorge trail, can stay with a parent. The gorge trail is full of stairs, was beautiful after the heavy storm. There is away to go back without using the stairs again but also almost without any attractive view. There is a road that reaches the top of the trail, but I'm not sure if the public has access to it. I was back there a week later. The fall was completely different, and swimming was allowed. I didn't go up again the gorge trail, so not sure how it looks without a...
Read moreIf you are in the area this is a cool spot to hike and get some "steps". You can drive in off the main road to see the Falls from your car (circle around), but if you want to explore, you need to park and walk the site. It was $9 for our vehicle (keep the receipt for access to other NYS parks that same day). A credit card was used in a machine to print the ticket.
The hike up along the Falls contained may steps and some uneven terrain. A breather or two will likely be needed, especially on a hot day. The views are great along the way, with waterfall, upon waterfall, as you ascend the trail;. There are a few trails to take. Note the map at the base of the Falls (near the restrooms) to give an overview.
If you enjoy exploring, hiking and nature, it's...
