Brought my girl to complete the PR landing here yesterday Thursday night around 9pm. It wasnt busy and the drive from Toronto to here took about 1 hour. Some sections of the road were totally dark without any streetlight so drive safely. Followed Hwy 405 and stayed on "car lane" after passed the sign "last exit before USA". Get on to the bridge, when come to US border booth tell officer you are doing flagpole, he/she will get you a white paper stating you are refused to get into US because you will be doing PR landing at Canada border later. Then he will ask you to make a U turn to get to other lane back to bridge again. Officer at US border was nice and asked few simple questions whether you bringing 10k cash or so. Once you are on your way back to Canada border through bridge, hand over the white slip and tell Canada border officer you wanna do PR landing, then he will get you a yellow slip and redirect you to an officer which is on your right side, about 50m away after you pass the Canada border booth. Then have your landing interview in that office, have your document and passport and yellow & white slips hand over to officer, officer will ask you few simple questions then wait about 20mins, if everything goes right you will be granted with PR status. Highly recommend you do your landing here instead of Rainbow bridge since the latter one has becomes a hot spot for landing interview and could be crowded. Come over here at night and the whole process can be done very fast. PR landing interview can be done at all 3 border customs (Queenston, Rainbow bridge, Peacebridge) in niagara on the lake area, but only between Tuesday to Thursday, 8am to midnight....
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience during flagpoling at the Canadian checkpoint. My first interaction with the officer at the checkpoint was unpleasant. Afterward, we were sent to the office for further processing. Upon entering the office building, the officer standing there was initially unwilling to process my file, stating that he didn’t find it relevant.
It took a lengthy discussion and a lot of effort to convince the officer that my case had valid reasons. Only then did he agree to look into my file. However, he eventually claimed they couldn’t process it that day because they were only handling five files per day, whether for work permits or PR. This seemed unreasonable—how is it possible to process only five files between 8 a.m. and midnight? It felt like they were unwilling to do the work.
Based on this experience, I strongly advise anyone considering flagpoling at this location...
Read moreThere are a few different options for crossing the border between the United States and Canada. Based on where I was and where I was headed, the Lewiston Queenston Bridge ended up being the most efficient for me to get to Ontario. I understand that this bridge usually has the least congestion compared to the Peace Bridge (bonkers!) or the Whirlpool Bridge (which only accepts drivers with a NEXUS pass).
This beautiful arch bridge opened in 1962 and has five lanes over the Niagara River. It serves as the terminus of I-190 in New York and Highway 405 in Ontario. Very good signage points the way to the border and there is a "Last Exit in USA" sign to keep you from doing something dumb.
A toll of $5.00 USD (or $6.50 CAD) is grabbed at the border but only heading in to Canada. There is a tollbooth after the border crossing and I was surprised that my North Carolina...
