The space is beautiful. Ball fields are well maintained. The facilities are clean. Trails are wonderful. However, because dogs are allowed off leash you are dependent on responsible pet ownership. Dogs have designated areas in which to be off leash. If pets are not trained to be off leash and listen to their owners it is a problem. We took are a very large dog to the park for the first time on leash. As we were walking our dog on leash through a trail, a woman with three unleashed dogs was sitting on the grass. One dog did not appreciate my dog and proceeded to walk towards my dog while barking, growling and snarling. She kept calling the dogs name and dog kept walking towards us. My husband and I were unsure of what to do. So we just continued to walk looking back to the dog as she kept yelling for the dog to come to her. Finally we were far enough so that her dog stopped growling. In order to avoid an issue , I went back and got the car and picked up my husband and my dog just in case the other dog got more aggressive. The woman had her dog off-leash where you are not supposed to have the dog off leash. It was my first time there and I was a little uncomfortable because of that incident. Aside from that we had no issues. Be careful in the parking lot because pet owners leave their dogs was off-leash in the parking lot also and accidents can happen. You should just actually read the signs that are posted when you drive in on pet etiquette in that Park, it's not that hard. I will return but the chances of me having my dog off-leash...
Read moreGedney park is a lovely park. It is dog friendly and child friendly. As soon as you park you can see the playground and a small lake. It has a playground for kids that is currently closed because of Co-vid19, a pond with fish, pond snails, turtles of both the snapping kind and the commonly-found-in pet-store- red boxer eared variety, geese not ducks ( I have never seen a duck there in my life), and lots of interesting insects like dragonflies and caterpillars. I love this park because in the warmer months I can almost always find those things there and it is great for teaching the kids more about the ecosystem. I have only seen a frog once but you can hear them and they do live there. You can fish here but there is no swimming area.
If you venture further into the park you can find a playing field.
They have a cute picnic area with two picnic tables by the fishing dock and a gazebo, without the side walls, for shelter if it rains. The geese like to hang out by the lake in front of the gazebo and recently someone has moved a picnic table from out under the gazebo and placed it...
Read moreIt used to be a nice park with walking trails next to a stream. But the pond in Gedney has Algae bloom which has made the surrounding areA stinky. One playground for young kids is at the front and one for toddlers is at the back. They have baseball fields at the back and a Gazebo which is good and is not affected by the pond smell. Lots of parking spots. Hope that they fix the pond soon. Update : Since Gedney park has dogs walking off leash off trails and sniffing on passerbys, it is not fun for everyone...
