Ives Park — Attraction in Town of Potsdam

Since I come here to fish from Shore, my take on the place is rather different from people who walk. However, it is well maintained, there are plenty of benches to sit at if you wish to stare at the river or canoodle with a loved one, there is a monument to the armed forces that one can visit, and the Canadian geese are well-behaved and fairly tolerant of people.

Pets are welcomed, I've never been bothered by people (though occasionally thoughtless owners encourage their dogs to play right where I'm fishing), and there are handy trash receptacles as well as a Portapotty that is cleaned regularly.

Convenient access to main street businesses as well as a make-it-yourself frozen yogurt place in case you want to cool off on a hot day. Many people also enjoy the ice cream stand on the other side of the movie theater, but I find their prices high and quality lacking. Try both if...

Very sweet and beautiful park right in downtown Potsdam, NY. Our personal favorite local place for leisure/relaxation and community events. It’s a perfect little spot to be in the nature and yet remain in the middle of everything. There is a gazebo, benches, swing bench and a playscape for kids. A lovely playground incorporated into nature with nature in mind. There is a kayak/canoe launch dock. On Saturdays, May - October there is Farmer’s Market and occasional trackless train rides for kids and oh so many awesome events in the park through Summer/Fall. View of the river and the church, built with locally sourced sandstone, is stunning through all 4 seasons. One thing that could make this place better is access to the bathroom. The playground has been done for a while now and it's not disappointing. Size is good and benches are placed well for parents to sit and watch their kids from wherever, no following them around the playground.
